Another Update

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

This morning I heard from a nurse at a hand surgeons office. My appointment isn't until the 21st of August... hopefully they don't tell me that the bones are already set and there's nothing they can do! So now I just have to sit and wait for a week before I know anything else.

I think this is going to effect my weight loss attempts. For some reason my weight isn't coming down like it normally does after cheat day. I've been the same weight (4 lbs over last Saturday) for the last 3 days. Maybe I can cut back a little and get it moving again.

I really want to say how touched I am by all of the comments and goodies I've received in the last couple of days. I wish I could spend the hours needed to respond to everyone personally. But typing is painful, to both my hand and the rest of my right arm that I have to hold at an awkward angle so that my splint doesn't just mash a bunch of keys when I try to type! After typing for about 30 seconds I have to stop and rest my hand/arm and I have 5 papers still to write for a class!!! Dreading that.

I'm not taking any pain meds, instead choosing to save them for a rainy day. You might be wondering why I would do that if it hurts now. Well, 2 herniated discs, 9 knee dislocations, 3 shoulder dislocations, the occasional cluster headache. It's for these other ailments that I prefer to hoard pain meds. If something hurts to the point that I can't function, I take something for it, other wise, I save 'em! Also, a lot of Doctors don't want to give me Vicodin because junkies fake injuries to get their hands on the stuff and I'm allergic to codeine and ibuprofen, which is what junkies say also!!!! So there have been times in my past where I was in pain and was refused pain meds because a Dr. was being "cautious" about supplying user. So I save what I do get for the days that I REALLY need them.

I hope that rambling nonsense made at least a little sense. :)

Being someone who is also in constant pain and allergic to opiates, I empathize! I hate pain meds and take them only when I absolutely can't tolerate it any longer. Even over the counter stuff is taken judiciously since I have an ulcer as well. Hope you feel better soon.

As for the papers, how about trying a speech to text program? You just talk and the computer does the typing. There's one called Dragon but I'm sure there are others out there. Maybe even a free downloadable one?

You have to type 5 papers? Are you kidding? I had hand surgery and although I did not break bones I do know ice and elevation are your friends. For all of you following along, I cannot emphasize enough the elevation technique with the pillow and duct tape...fingers to the sky! lol

Would they tell you the bones are set and there is nothing you can do? emoticon emoticon emoticon

*BIG HUGS* I do hope that you are soon on the mend. Thank YOU for always being such an inspiration to me. Don't let this get you down! Don't plan for it to mess up your progress and remember - don't focus on the numbers! Just continue healthy habits and the results will continue. Hope all the pain is soon under control.

That is extremely annoying when they take forever to give you an appointment when you clearly need one now. Don't worry about getting back to folks who leave you comments, take care of your hand.

What is this? Junkies know best? LOL

There is always a silver lining in everything. Yes, save your Vicodin.

If you could send them over the border, I'd encourage you to send those drugs my way for my back pain!

Take of yourself. Don't be punching anymore fridges.
