Time to get back on track!

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

The kids started school this week..Monday. IT's crazy that summer vacation flew by so quickly but we've definitely been busy so it's not surprising I guess. Austin is down to half a school year. He's planning on graduating early and so long as he keeps his grades up he'll be able too. He even signed up for an 'early bird' class to have all the specific credits he needs. Michael started first grade and seems to like it pretty well..even though he's still asking to stay home. He skinned his knee in a bike wreck yesterday evening and was totally incapacitated(lol...drama) all night and this morning. Tried to stay home from school. I was firm. It really IS just a skinned knee..we all have had them..it's life. No bruise even. I'm really NOT a horrible mom. Anyway, after all the dramatics failed "Mom, you're so mean!"..."mom, I love you soooo much!"... he got dressed and I took him to school. Once he got to his class he stopped hobbling and acted all perky and happy. sheesh. kids. But, that was a relief for me also.

I'm job hunting. I worked at a factory in town for one night and that was enough for me. So, now i'm looking at home health care (homemaker) type jobs. I think I would really enjoy that type of work. A few people have suggested being a substitute teacher but honestly I don't know if that would really be for me. But, I'd prob. give it a try if nothing else pans out...or maybe not. lol. The job hunt is stressful but also part of life.

Our home has been on the market for 3 weeks and nobody has wanted to see it at all. That's disappointing. And, all the houses we've seen..we've not wanted either. Well, I found one in a diff. town by my best friend's house that I liked but Ben don't want to live in that town. Which is fine. I want everybody to be happy, ideally. Our agent has a bunch of showings set up for us on Thursday. The first i'm excited about. It's an old abandoned school house. It's empty but has been well cared for over the years. It has no water or heat but does have electric. It has an outhouse, lol. The pictures online have a LOT of potential and it seems like a fun project for us. So, i'm anxious to see it in person. The location is ideal and it has a good sized yard with it. half an acre. It's cheap enough that we COULD probably buy it even without our house selling and just live here while we get it livable. Would be a fun get away spot in the meantime. BUT...we've not even seen it yet so I'm prob. getting all excited for nothing. IT's still fun to dream. I LOVE that type of thing..home improvements..etc. And, it would be AWESOME when we got it done. It's two stories and has like 2300 square feet..lots of windows and hardwood floors throughout. The staircase and banister are beautiful in the picture. We could do whatever we wanted with the place because it has no interior walls currently. Downstairs is all open and so is upstairs. We would keep the downstairs all open aside from a bathroom..upstairs our agent said there is plenty of room to make 3 large bedrooms. Hubby knows how to do all of that stuff and has wanted to build his own house..so this is kind of like that but getting a jumpstart on it. But, we'll see how it looks in person. There is also a really long chicken coop in the backyard for storage(lol).

I've been staying busy canning a bunch of green beans and tomato juice. Also did some pickled beets and peach preserves. The grapes are turning purple so I'll be making grape jam before long also. I had to buy more canning jars but it's worth it.

Hubby and his friends were in Sturgis South Dakota for the bike rally a week ago. It was somewhat stressful for me..and him...but he's home now and everything was fine. It's funny because his butt still hurts. He had to lay on the couch last night on a heating pad. Says he don't even want to look at his bike right now. lol. We went to a car show on Sunday but didn't win any awards. IT was a big show with tons of nice cars and trucks.

I've been doing bad at staying on track with weight watchers. Me and the kids ate out way to much while hubby was gone. Austin has put on 15 lbs over the summer and is now griping about it and trying to lose it. Finally admits that his diet is to blame. I gained back 6 of the 18 lbs. that I lost. Hubby has gained some but not a ton. He always eats junk but don't snack much. I snack regardless so that's my big problem. Same with Austin. Michael is still scrawny. He don't eat a ton and runs it off. lol. So, I'm determined to cut out our eating out so much and make home cooked meals. Last night was corn on the cob and grilled bbq chicken. Tonight is green beans and something else. Maybe pork chops and mashed potatoes. If I served steamed veggies and plain chicken breast nobody would eat it. I just try to cut back on the fat and calories with regular food.

Ok, I've got a ton of cleaning to do and then need to call a lady about a job later.
