I Gave In

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

BUT, It's not what you are thinking. I have had short hair since I was in Grade 12 at high school And have always loved how my hair looked as I was growing older until about 5 months ago. I was due for a haircut and suddenly decided that I wanted to grow my hair long again. At that point, I had just dyed it so it was a lovely coppery red. Not as beautiful as my natural colouring from when I was younger, but still pretty nice. I grew it for about 2 months and started finding it blowing onto my face sometimes and tickling my ears. I bought barrettes to hold it back and was disappointed to find that my , now thinning hair, would not support their weight. I bought combs to sweep it away from my face but they fell out a lot. I continued to grow my hair for another 2 months to the point where it was curling on the ends. That was totally new! I have always had dead straight hair. Where did these curls come from? I embraced them but hated that they were constantly sneaking into my collars and hanging in my face. It was annoying me more and more each day.
The other day I looked at myself in the mirror, for the first time in a while. There was a white haired, thin on top older woman with straggly red and while hair of a thousand different lengths. I gave in.
I went to a new hairdresser and told her I wanted it short, very short. I don't enjoy fussing with my hair. With neck and shoulder issues I can't hold up a blow dryer to help with styling and styling alone makes them both ache and pain. She cut and checked with me and cut and checked and finally she combed it into place. I was thrilled.
I now have a complete, well almost, head of strawberry-white hair that styles itself and is simply wash and go. I am so happy I tried to grow it. It reminded me of how I love how my hair looks fresh out of the shower and most of the time for the rest of the day.
I won't take a picture today, as I didn't wash it and it looks like a tornado, but soon I will get DH to take my new pic for my gallery, as it has been 7 moths and I need a new progress picture. I will try to get one of my new do if any turn out nice enough to not frighten anyone.
To short hair and old age!

I cut mine off earlier this year, but that was because I was having a day where I wanted to binge and i figured getting a hair cut might shock me out of that compulsion (it did)! I do enjoy having shorter hair, so much quicker to dry, just needs a comb run through it in the morning...

Sounds like you are doing well, in terms of meeting life's challenges and making decisions that please you. Take care, my friend.

Gini I can't wait to see your new pics and your new do !!! Bravo though to you for trying something new.

My hair is completely gray and very long, a bit too long right now so I need a cut, but I have tried short hair several times and I have never liked it on me and in my opinion it is much more time consumming than long hair as I always had to do something to it !!! My hair is so fine and poker str8 that it just layed flat on my head and did nothing for my face at all. Yes I do have to flat iron my long hair but thats really all and when all else fails the pony tail is a girls best friend !!!

I bet it's beeeuuuutiful!!! I can't wait to see it. I have super curly hair & it's been driving me nuts lately so I had my hairdresser give me an all over trim and layer it really good.

LOL it lasted a couple of weeks and right now it's up in a ponytail because it got on my nerves. Ha ha looks like it's time for another trim.

I grew my hair for the first time ever for 2 years. I had always wanted long flowing hair. 4 weeks ago I cut it. I'm so glad I did! Short is just easier! I still need to play with a style a little, but especially in the heat of the summer, yah for short hair. Sometimes we need to change things up to appreciate what we really like! Glad you are happy with your short do!

I can't wait to see it. I tried growing my hair out,
had perms for more years than I can count and
finally decided to cut is short. It is almost totally
straight but at least it is hair and I do not fuss with it either.
