It's official: I'm a dumb ass!

Okay, so today I was at my deceased grandmother's house, there to load her fridge and a freezer into my truck. I got them both into my truck but the tie down straps I bought for this job turned out to be one inch shorter than I needed.

I was frustrated, not just by the straps; My back was having spasms, I learned yesterday that the thesis statement for a paper I had been working on was rejected by one of my instructors, I was hungry and on top of that I was still angry at the fact that my son and I never got paid for helping my friend and his mom move last month.

In a moment of sheer stupidity I did something that I hadn't done since my 20's; I punched a solid object. It was the fridge that took my best shot today, and to my credit it now has two permanent dents where my knuckles struck it. however, being a fairly solid object, my hand took the brunt of the damage.

I received a boxer's fracture of the 5th metacarpal, right at the knuckle (outside bone of hand, above pinky finger) on my right hand. Of course, I'm right handed too.

So, I'm currently wearing a temporary fiberglass splint and have orders to see an orthopedic surgeon in the next 3 days because it might require surgery (the break is a little twisted).

I'm typically a good typist, using all of my digits and able to hit at or near to 40 words per minute. Right now I only have access to 2 fingers and the thumb of my right hand and i can't move my wrist due to the splint. What all of that means is this, "typing is now very difficult and a little painful".

I'm also high on Vicodin right now so I'm a bit loopy and full of love (an interesting side effect that Vicodin has on me, would be much more worthwhile if I had a girlfriend!)

So I may not be doing a lot of blog commenting for a while. I will still be reading them, but comments may become few and far between for a while.

I would like to hug everybody right now.

Had to backtrack on your blogs to understand why it hurts to type.
Sheesh. I don't blame you for your frustration. Wasn't sure if to laugh or cry at various points. So I'll just say what my dad used to say... well, at least you have the other hand.

Sounds like the encounter my nephew had with the wall when someone stole his money at work. Hope you don't need surgery.

Ouch. Hope you're doing well. As I was helping my son with football pracice, my pinky was not paying attention during the catch and decided to jam itself into a 20 yard driving throw to me. Snap. Best to us both.

Notice how everything comes at once. Do you think it's a coincidence or if there is such a thing as Murphy's law? Last year, I was at the airport coming back to the US. I always fast 24 hours before flight. It turns out that I showed up 1 day late because the flight leaves after midnight the day before. After been through an exhausting trip, in my fasting state, I didn't have the faculty to negotiate for a lower penalty. Instead I paid the full penalty of $400 like an idiot. What I didn't like was I didn't even try. Problems always come to you at the worst possible time.

I always go into the office on weekends. We deal with a lot of large documents. The proverbial Murphy's law is that on Monday morning, you need to print a page or two and there would be some huge jobs ahead of you. So to check if Murphy's law exists, I opened the printer to check the large paper tray. Sure enough, many times it's empty. Murphy was just ready to strike on some hapless souls in the office on Monday morning. Print jobs would be piling up and nobody got anything because there is no paper, until someone checks the printer.

I always fill it with paper. But now I have proof that Mr. Murphy is alive and well.

Also, the lesson learned from the trip is that I won't make decision on empty stomach. I had food with me at the time. I'd break the fast then we'll talk.

Thanks for the update, I was wondering whether you'd post anything due to the injury emoticon Sounds like one too many frustrations piled up. Where is a person supposed to go with them sometimes? I hope your hand heals fast so you can get back to doing the things you enjoy that don't involve fridges!

If you were a woman you might have just had a good cry but then you wouldn't have your vicodin. Sorry that these problems/frustrations hit you all at once. Things are bound to get better. Take a pill and a nap.
