Hi everybody, just back from the shore where I had a very nice time. I was gone for 4 days, with a comped room in AC.

emoticon All was well until I came home....and then I had a very freaky accident on the highway. I was nearly home when I was slowing on an access ramp and suddenly a FLOCK OF GEESE!!!!! came flying AT ME...All I could do was grip the wheel and scream "omg" (the long version...) over and over as they slammed into my headlight, windshield and roof. Geese are BIG birds. A peep in the rearview was gruesome, looked like I took out 3 or 4 of them, but lucky for me I didn't lose control of the car, the windshield didn't shatter, and other than a cracked headlight and a small dent, no car damage. The only signs of bird on my car was a few feathers in the light.

I felt so bad. I still do. I'm trying to make myself feel better by joking about it, but I really do feel bad. There are 3 or 4 flocks of geese in this area all the time. You would think since they have wings and could fly and live anywhere that they would not choose to live in the middle of a city near busy highways, especially when there's a perfectly suitable marshland about 3 miles from there. Guess they're not the world's smartest birds.

They always land and graze in the lot behind my house and guess what sound I awoke to the next day? Honking like mad. Like a crazy mixed up urban legend meets Alfred Hitchcock movie....

I wish the geese would have ducked.

Enough about my unwanted excitement....

Made good food decisions considering, which were even noticed by a lady I chatted with at a buffet seated next to me. My one meal per day was a big pile of veggies, 1 piece of steak and one piece of chicken. Diet coke for dessert. I felt full but not stuffed and I was proud of myself for not overdoing it. Spent one day at a friend's get together luncheon and ate a half sandwich, salad and half a muffin for dessert...(The muffin was quite decadent....) ...oh, and a handful of cashews. I did considerably more walking around than I can usually muster before my knee gives out. Felt like progress that I haven't felt in awhile.

We are busy this week at the shop and closed next week. I may finally make it to visit my cousins in NY....been procrastinating for too long.

Have a great week ahead everybody and if you're ever in South Philly, watch out for Goosenado! emoticon

True story: There was a freak accident in Seattle, where a whole huge flock of starlings were found dead on a road. Scientists were brought in to analyze the bodies, no one could figure out how they all died.

Some man came forward and said he was driving home after a long night out (drinking? working? I don't remember) and said the birds were all in the road, he didn't even notice them at first, and they all just kind of woke up and flew right into his car and he couldn't do anything about it - except try to get out of there as quickly as he could!

WOW! I've never heard of such a crazy accident on the ground. I've heard of planes hitting flocks of geese. Geez. Glad that you are well & that there was not more damage to your vehicle. Good for you doing well with your food on vacation. I always find that a challenge. Great job! emoticon
