Thanks to everyone who offered encouragement, support, and advice! All much appreciated. I ended up calling my current doc's office and talked with the nurse (fact of modern life - you don't get to talk to the docs). The nurse said that the doc said that it's not unusual to gain a lot of weight suddenly, that gaining weight isn't an emergency, and to stop eating sugar. Since I haven't had sugar or even sweeteners for several years, it wasn't helpful. Fortunately, I have an appointment to see the doctor next month. So we'll see what happens between now and then. In the meantime, I've decided to change nothing. I eat 6 to 8 servings of veggies a day combined with 5 to 7 ounces of protein (salmon, chicken, or turkey) and one fruit. That's just going to have to do it for a while. Meanwhile, I am going to add some resistance training and see if that helps.
Busy days ahead at work, including a mandatory out-of-town trip. I'm taking my Mac, so hope I'll be able to keep up with sparking...
Thanks again to you all!!
