The smell of sweet, fresh hay was apparent even with the truck window up and A/C on as I rolled into the big barn. Getting out of the truck, Sandy, the half Sharpei danced up...all happy...and wet. "There is nothing so friendlier than a wet dog", I have heard the comment made...true...shaking, slapping, rubbing up against me...one can't help get lost in such enthusiasm. Heading home I was acutely aware of my slightly leaning load on the twisty road as I gathered about 6 vehicles behind me in a two mile stretch of non passing line...relieved to get up my own drive and opening and shutting each gate as I made my way around and into and out of my own barn...wringing wet when I came inside for lunch and cool down. Tonight we head to the gym to work out. I can tell the heat has been rough on Mom and I encourage her to rest and not worry about how much she gets done. The anxiousness of being inside because of the extreme weather haunts her even though she is not an outdoors person like me.
