Thursday May 3, 2007 our family got to take part in a Mock Airplane Crash. We arrived at the National Guard Air strip by 7:30 AM. It was very interesting to watch everyone receive their life-like injuries.
At first our only family job was to act out that our 2 yr. old (Cheyenne) was unconscious with no pulse and no respirations. As the morning progressed they gave my husband an upper arm compound fracture. And just before it was time to go to the field the girls wanted injuries. The make-up artist gave them bruises on their faces.
Raven then got to pretend she was disoriented and lost. She did a very good job running around hollering for her mommy and daddy. I think she really enjoyed herself.
I was in charge of Cheyenne. The firefighter escorted us to the yellow tarp and the gentleman in charge asked me what was wrong after explaining Cheyenne's condition he got a tag out and tagged her 'MORGUE'. This was a shock to me. They did not try to revive her. I then was really in shock myself. The thought that my baby was dead, well I was not accepting that and I continued to ask for a doctor and that we needed to get to a hospital. I was not acting I really was perturbed that they would just tag her 'morgue'. WOW!
Just think in a disaster all we really are is a 'TAG'. That is all our lives add up to on this earth. Very sobering.
The whole situation keep me thinking about life the rest of the day. Oh, how precious life is and oh how little time we may really have with our children. I have kept her morgue tag as a reminder to myself. What am I doing today to prepare my children for this life? What type of relationship with Jesus do they have?
Praise God it was only a Mock Airplane crash and only a Mock 'morgue' tag.
