I joined Sparkpeople January 2012. I just started Paramedic class and had become friends with my classmates right away. One classmate and I started talking about my weight and thyroid issues.He asked me if I have heard of Sparkpeople. I said no. He then told me that him and his wife go to a nutrition counselor and the counselor had mentioned Sparkpeople to them. He told me to check it out. So I did.
In January 2012, I think I was still in denial and still lazy. I started my Sparkpeople page and did a few things, like exercised and drank more water. I stopped drinking pop. But I phased out within a week.
In April 2012, my friend and I were talking about losing weight. I introduced her to Sparkpeople. This is when I became active again. I did it because finally I realized that the life I was living was going to kill me if I didn't lose the weight. I also thought about the effects it would have on my daughter. I wanted my family and I healthier. If it was going to be just me changing, fine, but I was going to try no matter what!
I started strong in exercise and eating and drinking right. I avoided restaurants, ate more fruits and veggies, I worked out 2-4+ hours a day.
In August 2012, I phased out a bit. I graduated college as a Paramedic. Things got busy.
By August, I lost 62 pounds. 350 down to 288.
Today, I weigh 326. I gained some of the weight back. But you know what? I didn't gain all of it back and I never gave up completely.
I am on Sparkpeople for a reason. That reason is to lose weight and become healthy. I am here because I don't want to do it alone. I need guidance, encouragement, and friends. I need support right beside me, every step of the way.
I no longer have an excuse to why I don't or can't, I have a reason why I do and can.
