I just can't believe it's been since JULY that I've written a blog. In my 4+ years of Sparking, this is by far the longest break I've taken!
For the last few weeks, I have been incredibly busy moving books and materials. I am interning in the School District of Philadelphia (I LOVE my internship) in the curriculum department. The district just closed 27 schools (sad face) and so all the materials had to be moved out of the schools. Part of my responsibility is to oversee a small team of temp workers to get books where they need to go. But I'm not just sitting around telling people what to do (although it's part of it), I am schlepping around boxes and doing lots of hard work. I come home exhausted every day. And although I haven't been to the gym in a while (I'm so tired!), I've managed to slim down a little bit simply through all this work I'm doing.
But it hasn't been all moving boxes, there have been some really great things happening in the last month or so.
Earlier this summer, I met a girlfriend for macarons at a little French restaurant in Philly. We had a great talk, and from this talk, I ended up with a renewed excitement for photography and a suggestion to apply to a music two blocks from my house.
I signed up for a photography class and I sent in my resume to the music school.
Last week I was hired by the music school to teach early childhood music workshops! If you know about my former job, I was a K-2 public school music teacher, and I LOVED my job. I was absolutely devastated when I lost my job. So this new job is, well, so amazingly perfect for me. And if you knew me outside of Spark, you would also know that I am really interested in education as part of a community. And this school describes itself as a "non-profit community arts center." It's been around for over 100 years and has a fantastic reputation. So I am SUPER excited. I start in September!
For the last five days I have been taking a photography class. AAAAAHHHH I had so much fun. I learned so many new tricks that are going to make me a better photographer, and I got a recommendation for a printer so I can print out my own pics. As part of the class, we could choose some images to print out on this GORGEOUS photo paper - I already told hubs that I am going to buy this printer and the paper. I have been staring at my pictures for the last two days.
And since good things come in threes, the third one is this - we got an applicant to rent our house! But the best part is that she is interested in rent-to-buy. My realtor called me last night to tell me, and I was in IKEA, and I almost cried right there.
I love being in the city. In the last month I really feel like I *live* here now. I've found the best place to get a taco (I went on a taco crawl with some friends), I met a new friend through my book club, and I have a new photography buddy I met in my class. She lives close to me and is an art teacher. Since I've moved down here, I've become more outgoing - I didn't really have a choice, there was no other way to meet people!
There's lots to do today...
- get some groceries
- run some errands
- make some art!
- read a book!
- work on grad school application stuff (I am applying for Ph.D programs!)
Make it a good one!
