Yesterday was the first day I have fasted in quite awhile. I've fasted for 12 hrs for blood tests every now and then, but I chose to fast for 24 hours. I went from 6pm to the following 6pm. When I got hungry I drank water and got up and did something that required concentration - to get my mind off food.
The times I was more tempted I thought about all the people I knew who were sick or dying and prayed for them. Spent some time doing that and that was really helpful.
During supper, which was before my fast was over, I went for a fast walk. When I was ready to eat again I ate cottage cheese and a fat, juicy plum. About an hour later I realized I didn't eat anything green so I had green pepper and dip and some crackers.
I had not problem with lightheadedness, which surprised me. If I began to feel lightheaded I just drank more water and it went away. That seemed to be the solution for any negative physical effects.
An unexpected benefit was the amount of energy I had. I just did not feel like I had to take a break all day.
Overall I liked the feeling of being in control of what I ate ate versus food controlling me. This is something I will definitely do again. In my goals I put twice a week. That may be too often for this kind of fast.
