Frustration and $$$

Tuesday, August 06, 2013

I am on the title of son#2's house, and he wants to refinance. He bought the house in 2006 (top of the market) and has gotten 3 appraisals over the last 5 years trying to be able to take advantage of lower rates. He lives in a rural area, and the appraisals all came in low. He isn't trying to take money out, just get a lower rate. Finally last June, an appraisal came in that he could use. That house is in my trust, so I had to forward the first and last pages of my trust to the underwriter. I told them I'd be happy to overnight both trusts (the original and the amended and restated trusts), but was told, no problem, just bring them to the closing. The bank has postponed the closing twice, and it is supposed to be done on Friday, the last day of the rate lock.

So this morning I find out they need both trusts in their entirety, faxed to them. At $1.00 per page. That's $50. What else could I do but fax them this morning?

With the kitchen reno and my condo board problems, this is the last thing I need, but my son needs it done so I do it. He and his wife have jumped through every hoop, now it's my turn.

Someone told me one time that any problem that can be solved with money isn't really a problem (his son died of cancer). I have to keep reminding myself of that.

I don't know, my father in law used to say "if you've got money troubles, you ain't got troubles" but they no longer have big family gatherings due to their financial situation. Still not cancer, but I wish we could do more to help. I guess we could try and have big family gatherings here...

That's the real trick to life, figuring out which are really problems and which are merely inconveniences. Sounds like you are keeping things in perspective.

OMG! $50?? That's a steep price to fax. I don't know the going rate to fax these days but I do know $50 is way too much. Glad you helped out your son though. I'm sure he appreciates you & everything you're doing for him. emoticon

Love the end of your blog and what the man said about money problems not being "real" problems...so true.

My sister refinanced her condo and it took FOREVER and multiple mailings of every piece of paper. I'm sorry it cost $50, but I know you couldn't have done any less for your son and his wife. So good for you!!

You have managed to hold onto your perspective - and that counts for a lot. Good for you for helping your son out!!

Interesting scenerio. The bank is not service minded.

I do hope it all goes smoothly from here. Seems that kind of week for a lot of people I know. I had to go through much with my mother's trust before and after she died...and I pray that with ours we never had to go through anything like you are.

Your remembering about the man's son dying of cancer really does put it into perspective. Our troubles can always be worse!
