Family Folies

Monday, August 05, 2013

You ever look at other families and think, "Wow! At least we are not THAT bad!", Well that is usually my family that you would be looking at! Also, in the South there is a saying for people who may be just a bit off , they say, "Bless their heart!", which loosely translates to,"Lord help him cuz he so needs it!"
That said I was reminded of 4 things from my families past that fit into this category. This weekend one of my brothers and one sister were here at my Mom's house & as family does when they get together, they talk! We reminisced about some of the "Bless their heart!" moments.
First, in the mid 80's, we got a puppy. She was so cute and so small. She was not big enough to walk up the 3 steps to the house, so my brother (who was in his mid 20's) got down on all 4's and showed the dog how to walk up the steps!..... "Bless his heart!"
After we all stopped laughing at him, the puppy climbed up the steps!!!!
Second, in the late 80's, my Mom, Dad, an Aunt and her Husband went on vacation together. My Uncle is a walking laugh-riot, without even trying to be. They were at Yellowstone National Park and he was filming the area. Suddenly they saw this big green iguana on a large brown rock. My Uncle was trying so hard to find the iguana but seemed to forget that he was holding the camera while he was quickly looking all over the place, up and down, back and forth! Then my Aunt told him that the iguana was about a foot away from where he was standing! "Bless his heart!"
Third, Last year at Thanksgiving, there was me and my 2 kids, my Mom and my Sister. Everyone was setting food on the table, My sister put the turkey, my daughter did the potatoes, I set down the rolls and the green bean casserole. Then everyone added more food until all the table was set. We were all sitting down & passing dishes around. I set the rolls between me and my Son. A few minutes later I was looking all around for the rolls and my sister said, "We set them on the freezer.", My eyes got real big and my mouth flew open because I could swear I never saw anyone get up and go into the other room to set anything on the freezer. Then my son pats my arm & when I look at him he points down between us & I see the rolls sitting right there!!!! "Bless her heart!"
Lastly, and this happened this last yesterday, Sunday. My Mom had accidentally burnt some food, we had to open a widow, a door and turn on the ceiling fan. My brother and his wife got there after all the smoke was gone. After about 10 minutes of eating he looks up at the ceiling and asks, "When did you get a ceiling fan? Has it always been there?", Mom looks at him in all seriousness and says, "No it hasn't always been there, just since we bought the house!", Then my sister laughs and reminds him that HE was the one who painted the ceiling!!! "Bless his heart!"
I cant tell you how many more stories I have. I just wanted to share these first. I hope that you enjoyed looking at some of my families folies.

    Thanks for the comment Ghostflames.

Chelsea, that story came up again yesterday as well, when my sister was telling my brother and his wife the story! LOL Glad you knew the "bless her heart" saying. Being a Northerner I had heard it but had not understood its real meaning until I came down here, lol

I really enjoyed your stories. Your family has a great sense of humor! emoticon I still remember your story of what you all did when you were testing a car before buying it (one if your previous blogs).

Thanks for sharing, my friend, and have a wonderful day! emoticon

    Love, Chelsea emoticon

P.S. I live in the South so I'm well acquainted with "bless her heart". emoticon
