You are right about 5-10 minutes of exercise since once you start you usually stay onto your goal. I only though I may do 30 minutes walking but I managed 90 minutes+ and yes I was careful about it. Yeah, I love stretching and Yoga I have seen much improvement in my health, balance, coordination, flexibility and strength. Plus it reduces your chances of injury. I did my 10K plus last night & I still feel very good, no pain. I think I may be on the mend now. Hoping!
On FitBit I have taken the suggestion to move round at least 1 full minute every hour just so I get more movement in the day. I walk or march in place. It helps with being less immobile since being very sedentary is so bad~ emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You are so right, LJ, sometimes just 5 minutes will get us up, get us going, and much more healthy exercise will follow. It's breaking the inertia that makes all the difference! Wise advice, indeed!

Committing to 5 minutes does a lot more than people think.

I have a sedentary job, which means if I don't pay attention I can sit all freaking day long. I've started using an app called StandApp. You can set it to remind you to stand up at the intervals you want. And it suggests an exercise for you do during the 5 minuites you are supposed to stand up...or you can just stand up. I do lunges, wall push-ups, desk push-ups, leg lifts, calf raises, and all kind of things. You can add 30 minutes or more of exericse to your day this way.
