Call it midsummer blahs, post-vacation letdown or temporary insanity, but I've signed up for a DOUBLE road race at the end of this month. That's right, that's a 10k at 7:30, followed by a 5k at 9:15...for me that means 45 minutes of "rest" in-between. Or maybe it's an interrupted 9-miler.
I'm not ready to start HM training (my race is in mid-November) but I found myself needing a challenge so I did this to myself to keep a near-term motivating event in front of me...I seem to need that.
So now I'm experimenting with paces (how fast can I run the 5k?), warmup duration and timing (running stiff is not fun!), nutrition (hydration is a given, but how much food can I tolerate?) and even shoe-selection. I'm planning to change all my clothes in the break (goodbye, sweaty bra!) to give myself a mental lift, but changing shoes still feels a bit weird...
It's kooky, but I'm having fun with it.
