Yesterday morning, Shelley, her daughter and I, went back to the park and made a valiant attempt at the Parcourse Fitness Trail. Valiant. Like, you will watch this video and be amazed at our athletic prowess. You may even ask yourself, “Why aren’t they in the Olympics?” The answer is, “Because we don’t want to give up our pro status.” We tried really hard at every station. Some of them were just beyond us. Some of them had to be modified for my neck and Shelley’s back. But we tried. We really, really did. And we had fun. And we walked for an hour and a half. And we laughed a lot. And we got our heart rates up to Shelley’s satisfaction. And we got a little lost and ended up at the playground, where Shelley astounded herself by doing the monkey bars, so it was a good diversion. All in all, it was a fun and fit morning. And I’m feeling every inch of it today. lol

Behold the Suburban Athletes

Audrey ended up not going with us yesterday morning, but I have to brag about her for something else. You know she’s been working hard and losing weight this summer. Well, we did a little back to school shopping this week and she was so excited. For the last couple of years, she’s dreaded it and ended up just buying smaller t-shirts in the men’s department. Not this year. We went to fun shops and she was able to buy cute stuff, off the rack, in the women’s department! Some of you understand what a victory that is. I look forward to that day myself. She didn’t try to hide behind baggy clothes. Instead, she chose cute, flattering outfits, that accent her curves and help her stand tall and proud. I am SO happy for her! Check out her First Day of School outfit. I think she looks great.

Sha-BAM!!! Take that, 8th Grade!

Tomorrow is my week one weigh-in for my 5% challenge and I have to confess I’m a little fearful. Just a little. See, while I was traveling, someone sneaked this little jar of evil into my house.

Oh, the evil power you hold over me, you and your chocolately hazelnut goodness.

Anyway, I’ve been trying to reach for cantaloupe and watermelon, and ignore the evil, but it hasn’t always worked. Tomorrow will be what it will be and I will keep on plugging. In fact, I’m turning my back on the kitchen right now and jumping on the elliptical. Maybe if I run fast enough, I’ll get away? :)

Spark ON, Brave Sparkers!!

PS: I forgot to mention that Tom, Shelley and I have finally set the date for our 30,000 Step Challenge Day! We're doing it next Sat., Aug. 10th. It'll be a two-parter with one super early walk, before it gets hot, and then another one later that evening. If you want to join us virtually and try to get 30,000 steps in a day, wherever you are, let us know, so we can cheer you on!

I'm always afraid of making a fool of myself on the parcourse in our park. Need to stop thinking that way.

And a super big emoticon to Audrey on her HUGE NSV! Such a cute first day of school outfit. (Which would totally not fly at our schools around here that decided about 8 years ago that they're only going to allow khakis and solid colored polo shirts to reduce gang violence and bullying... no, there really wasn't gang violence in the schools, and it didn't do anything for the bullying problem.)

Audrey looks great. You all are working hard. I love Nutella too, but we can't have it in the house. Not for me mind you, but my grandson will eat it by the spoons full!
Keep on sparkin.

Great job. That ParCourse reminded me of something similar at a campground I used to go to that is now closed. Wish there was something like that close by. Glad you had a good time.

The Parcourse looks like really FUN fitness to me. I think I would have to pass on a few as well. You all looked great! Great editing job -- loved your stretching crickets!

Audrey is just AWESOME!!! Her hard work this summer really shows -- she is looking *fabulous* --- sha-BAM indeed!! Congrats to her on the tremendous victory of shopping in the fun clothes sections!! That really is a huge, rewarding accomplishment. I'm glad she is embracing it and not hiding her awesomeness! That outfit is PERFECT!!! She should absolutely stand tall and proud, ready to conquer 8th grade like a ninja! emoticon She is growing up so fast!!
I hope she has a great year ahead. She is just beautiful, inside & out.

Shel squared is just so much fun to see! I look forward to more of your fun fitness!!

    i thought I posted before, but guess I didn't.
I loved the video. I was CRACKING up.
Thanks for showing me how to use all that stuff... they have a parcourse by the lake and there aren't any instructions... maybe they took 'em down to refurbish them?... anyway... now I have a reference for the exercises.

I'm so glad for Audrey. She looks very in charge in her shero outfit.

As for 10th, no can do... training for my 1/2 marathon so Sat's our rest day... and I need it!!!! Running 5 miles straight on Sunday... I know I've never done that before.

Congratulations to your daughter! Great vlog.

I am going to join you virtually on the 30k steps on Saturday. I've done 25k a couple of times so 30k is not that much farther! We can do it!

Good luck! emoticon

You certainly made the course look fun! I wonder where one is in my neck of the woods? Maybe I could get my sister to do it with me.

Audrey is certainly a beautiful young lady. Her hard work is paying huge dividends.

Congrats to Audrey on all her hard work!

I hear you on the "evil", I mix a tiny bit in with peanut butter so I have that chocolate tast but not as much sugar. My sn loves the chocolate butter with his apples, as do I!

Loved it Loved it! That is what exercise should be fun! loved it all and I can totally to the other Shelly wanting to get the heart up. My son Jesse wears the strap and tracks it ever step. I have to say out of my laziness I choose to just do the work and ignore the science. I think when I hit 200 I will finally give in to figuring all that out, but as I hate math and am terrible at it I hide from things with numbers. Only number I look at is the steps, the miles, the scale.

Can I second that Sha-BAM!!! for Audrey, she looks awesome!! I know how she feels and when I took my two nieces out for a small school shopping spree a couple years ago one of them was tiny and the other XL so it was so disheartening to my XL niece that she could not get into the cute clothes at all. It made me sad for her too. You tell Audrey she deserves it she worked really hard and I hope her exercise streak is still going. Hugs Susan
