Well, two heart attacks and a major bleed from angioplasty later, here I am. On Saturday, July 27 I suffered a heart attack, had a stent placed, then clotted in the stent causing a second heart attack, had that stent cleared and on Sunday, July 28 I experienced a major bleed from the procedure the day before. I'm 45 years old. It can and will happen to anyone at any age. Please, please, please, please....if you don't already, please have your heart checked regularly, pay attention to your body, let it speak to you. Mine screamed to me last Saturday presenting first with chest pains radiating down the inside of both arms, then with cold sweats. Within 5 minutes of the first symptom my son was calling 911, within 30 minutes I was in surgery.
Never, ever just assume you have something else going on such as indigestion. It doesn't matter one lick if you go to the emergency room and they give you a Tums and send you on your way, you could do that 10 times, so what, it doesn't matter...every single symptom counts, every single second counts. Please, know the signs and listen closely to your body, know and clearly report your family history. Stay on top of your health, if you don't no one will.
I am so very blessed to still be here, standing on my soapbox, preaching. I will not be quiet and I will probably get on the nerves of those around me but I will forevermore be a champion for heart health, early warning signs, and listening to your body. God gave me a second chance, I have no intention of throwing it away!
Happy sparking everyone!
