You're not fat so why would you need to lose weight?

Thursday, August 01, 2013

It annoys me how people assume that because you aren't grossly overweight that you can't want or need to lose weight, whether it be for purely aesthetic or health reasons. I mean just because someone looks healthy to you doesn't mean they actually are. I know many people who aren't obese or even that overweight who have hypertension and diabetes just like I know people who are overweight who don't have any major health problems. I Just don't understand why other people think they have the right to judge whether or not my weight is healthy.

I've had a lot people lately questioning my desire to lose a few pounds. It's fine when my friends and family question it because they know me the best and all they want is for me to happy and healthy, both which I am at my current weight. But at the same time none of them are against my journey to get healthier. What really is bothering me lately is people I barely even know telling me that it's unhealthy for me to lose weight.

And the funny thing is I'm not even thin. I'm on the high end of my weight range and I am about 10 pounds heavier my nature weight, so I just don't get.

The world at large sees things in black and white. Your overweight or your not.
A healthy lifestyle isn't something they can look at.
But you can feel it.

I've given up trying to 'understand' when people say to someone "you're so skinny/lean you don't need to lose weight/exercise". Looks can be deceiving. Get told all the time about how lskinny I am...they don't know that i'm actually borderline obese for my height. These days I smile...tell them I hide it well ...and keep stepping. Wastes too much time to try and get them to understand.

sometimes though our weight is different than what we look like...we all carry our weight differently and you may be one of those people that does not look "big"...I am a bit like this....I am definitely heavy but because I dress well I look different than someone who would dress sloppy. Just another point of view....best of luck on the weight loss....I know personally I need to lose weight and I want to strengthen my muscles
