Disappointment or prudence?

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

I was thinking that today's run was a disappointment. My 3.2 mile loop took me 32 minutes with 4 walking breaks. But then I got to thinking... I didn't hydrate properly today, and I went out two hours earlier than I had planned, when it was still a little too warm. Combine those with a twinge in my right hamstring, and maybe I should write this one off to prudence. I listened to my body while I was out running, which is a good thing, right? Next time I know to hydrate more, and to practice patience and go a little later in the evening to take advantage of cooler temperatures.

I have more cleaning to do at mom and dad's tomorrow, then errands to run in anticipation of my trip. Plans for the trip are pretty loose, which makes me nervous. I like to plan way ahead, and have everything firm before I get ready to leave, and that just isn't happening this time. It is actually stressing me out a little. My niece arrives in town tomorrow, and we leave on Friday... pretty early. So, I need to get all my running around done tomorrow afternoon. My dad is letting me take the truck for the week, which is very sweet of him. He will drive mom's car while I am gone. Mom shouldn't be driving right now anyway, so it is not like she will be using it.

I am thinking I might go for a short run tomorrow, and see how I feel. I am usually faster when I know it will be a short run.

    Chandra,

Thank you for listening to your body! You totally did the right thing! I was one who didn't one time and was not able to do much of anything with a very swollen leg muscle! Had to rest a couple of days.

Have fun on your trip! Tell us all the cool details when you get back!

I know we aren't competing, but I did my 5K intervals (3.25 miles) in 51 minutes. And I was sweating like a ditch digger!

Don't be disappointed LL; some runs are better than others. Thank God for the health and strength for this run, and the ability to run another day!

I don't know your age, but I'm 32, I haven't been able to do it in 32 minutes... My best time 34.29

so, Are u crazy? ... I know that you don't suppose to compare yourself with "other" ppl, but you're doing great girl!

Not all workouts are as "good" as we want them to be, but you're doing great... Not be so hard with yourself

This journey is a marathon not a sprint and you were very wise to think ahead and pay attention to your body. I was very unwise in my younger days. Now I always have to be careful to not aggravate or bring on any new injuries.

Glad your computer is up and running. Ugh! It's the pits when it's down!

I will also beat my self down when I feel the workout was not as good as it should be so I know the feeling. You did very well and I am proud of you to listen to your body and taking breaks when your body needed it.

Good for you knowing when your body isn't happy! Do make sure you are properly warmed up and hydrated tomorrow and that your hammy isn't tight, last thing you need before a trip is an injury..
It is a comfort to have every single detail of a trip planned out, but sometimes not having it under complete control can lead to an adventure or an unplanned side trip to see a wonder you weren't expecting. So go with the flow. There is always the internet to search things when you are settled in for the night to plan what you might do and see in the day.
Good luck with getting all the errands done!
Enjoy your trip, they are supposed to be fun and relaxing!

ears that hear the language your body is speaking- and the wisdom to listen and respond. It would be folly if you didn't learn from what you are doing and adapt to do it better. That next 5k will be like a walk in the park

Patience and prudence are tough things to learn. It's taken me years to manage to have even just a little of them!
