Week 1 of 5% Challenge - Fun

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

This week I am doing fun things as a way to get exercise. My exercise theme is - What I Want to Do More Than Eat & Laze About!

emoticon Centennial Beach Playground - Sunday
emoticon Hop On Hop Off Vancouver City Tour - Monday
emoticon Diefenbaker Park - grass sledding - Wednesday

Centennial Beach Playground is the best playground ever. The kids loved it and I got exercise keeping up with them, then later walked along the beach.

Hop On Hop Off Vancouver City Tour was fun to see the city from the perspective of a tourist. It was a great way to start exploring more of the city. The tour was 3.25 hrs including the Stanley Park segment.

Diefenbaker Park has a playground, water park and a huge steep hill. We loved grass sledding on cardboard!

Today I am biking for 30 minutes then walking in the Watershed Park. Tonight I hope to do the 1,001 Stairs to see the eagles.

Last night I joined the White Rock Women's Walking Group. We will do our first walk next week. I am looking forward to exercising and making new friends.

My friend gave me lavender (essential oils) rocks - a sleep aid and form of aromatherapy. My friend and my daughter raved about how well they sleep with lavender. I tried it for 3 nights. Yes they really work, I slept VERY soundly BUT the last 3 days my appetite has been out of control. What's with that, just a coincidence? I loaned the rocks to someone else to try while I get my appetite under control.

Have fun my Spark Friends. emoticon

Whew! You've been busy. It all sounds like so much fun. How bad were the grass stains from sledding. Lots of calories to burn there if you beat them out on a rock. lol
My granddaughter has lavender bedtime lotion. When I rock her to sleep I have to fight dropping off to sleep before she does. I think it really does work. I've never slept with lavender but my appetite is out of control anyway. I wish I could blame it on something besides my poor self control.

Sounds like a lot of fun! 1000 stairs must be a real challenge. Eagles are a great reward.

Fun! Fun! Your attitude towards exercise Rocks! I have lavender plants in my plant nursery. I am going to try putting some sprigs near my pillow and see about sleeping better. Of course, if the appetite goes up the lavender goes out the window. lol!

Grass sledding?! This is a new one to me! Do you wax your cardboard like your sled? Your Fun Fitness this week sounds like a lot of fun! Lavender is a good sleep aid, and I use a drop or two of essential oil on my pillowcase or sheet.- sometimes both. Maybe your increased appetite is due to all of your fun exercise! emoticon

I'm curious too to see how your appetite reacts without the lavender in the room. I love lavender!! :)

The Hop On Hop Off tour intrigues me. Do you just get to go at your own pace and take as little or as much time as you want and catch the next tour bus that goes by? If that's the case, I think someone had a stroke of genius when they set that up.

Have fun the rest of the week. Although I'm not sure about how much fun the 1001 stairs can be... Even if you do get to see eagles at the top! Make sure you have your fitbit on to record all that climbing.

How fun and what a great idea! Fun and exercise? Who would have thought? Regarding the lavender....I use a lavender spray on my pillows to encourage sleep. It has never affected my appetite. Could it be all the outdoor fun is increasing your appetite? Hugs, Laurel

Fun is the best way to get in activity! I always cringe when I see well-intentioned people leading little kids in calisthenics. What they really need to do is play tag, or hide and seek, or kickball!

Sounds like a great time. When I travelled to Vancouver in summer 2010, we spent an entire day in Stanley Park, and could have spent more, easily!

Lavender works very well as a sleep aid, my grandmother has stopped taking sleeping pills and instead washes her hands with a lavender soap and uses a lavender hand lotion before going to bed and she raves about how much better she sleeps!

Have a great day! emoticon

Best is non exercise activity like the sightseeing that you're doing. I've just started taking melatonin and it made a believe. I've always had trouble falling asleep and this thing just made it happened and I don't remember when I fell asleep. No drowsiness or grogginess in the morning either.

Good job! Sounds like you're having a lot of fun while you work fitness into all your activities. I'm glad you found a natural sleep aid, however, that is odd that your appetite increased. Coincidence or not? I'm curious to see how it works out.

Keep it up, you're doing GREAT!
