Day 121 - Brookfield Zoo with my Sons
Tuesday, July 30, 2013
Today was such a perfect day to take my two sons to Brookfield Zoo. It was very overcast, a few sprinkles, and low 70s. We saw just about everything there is to see there. We haven't been there in many years and it seem to have changed quite a bit in many exhibits.
We saw the dolphin show too! I was amazed at how packed in we were! And it is a weekday with not so typical summer weather!
My youngest drove on the tollway both ways. He has his permit and could take the driving test anytime now for his license, but he feels he is not quite ready for it...plus he would then have to pay monthly insurance and the gas he uses. Illinois tolls are the absolute worst! Avoid driving through Illinois near Chicago if you can help it...
We were at the zoo for about 5 hours, so I got a lot of walking in! I did eat a large, soft pretzel without the salt and had a bottled Pepsi. It was good....and expensive! So, I am pleased with my calorie intake. The kids got full meals...
After we got home, I made the family an amazing meal that was a huge hit with my sons and my husband. (my husband did not go to the zoo...he was at work until 12:30 pm). I made baked tilapia and topped it with pineapple and mago salsa, fresh yellow and green zucchini / red pepper / red onion / mushroom mix topped with parmesean cheese and baked, plus fresh mango slices. Delish!
Right now, it is lightly raining and I have the windows open. It's music to my ears!
