Today I've completed 6 weeks of my current challenge - "Countdown to One Year Anniversary with SparkPeople".
I've lost only 5 pounds, which is a little disappointing, but a WHOLE lot better than gaining weight back. I'm 30 pounds down from my starting weight last September so I've really come a LONG way. That's from 205 down to 175.
I actually reached 175 three months ago then went back up to 180 and decided to start this 12 week challenge. I'm glad I'm back down to 175 but my goal is to get into the 160's. My doctor told me years ago to lose 30 or 40 pounds and get down between 160 and 170. I never thought it possible until I started with SP and now it's actually happening. I'm actually AMAZED. I was heavy for so long. I was always trying to lose weight. I never thought I could.
These past 6 weeks, I've been going to an exercise class twice a week at my church. I'm loving it. I've started strength training at the class. The instructor has various exercises set up around the room. We spend a minute at each exercise and then move on to the next station. Now I'm going to invest in my own set of dumb bells (10 pounds) so I can do strength training at home as well. My sweetie wants to "lift weights", too, so this is something we can do together.
I've had 20 alcohol-free days in the first half of my challenge which isn't bad. The past week I've been able to keep my alcohol intake very moderate - just a couple drinks in the evening before bed. If I can keep it down to 2-3 drinks in a day, I'm happy with that. I just don't want to over due it again and drink an entire bottle of wine in one evening for example. I haven't had any hard liquor, even when friends came over with a bottle. I didn't touch it. It seems that I've finally gotten a handle on my drinking and I'm able to control it pretty well - just a few drinks - and then go to bed - no "getting drunk".
To sum it up: For the next 6 weeks of my "Countdown to One Year with SP" I'd like to get my weight into 160ville. I plan on doing that by continuing with my exercise class. Adding strength training at least once per week at home. Keeping my drinking down to a minimum. Eating a healthy diet like I usually do. (I LOVE baked salmon and my veggie subs.) I'm also going to walk more. I just wish it wasn't so HOT down here in Florida in the summer.
September 10th will be my one year anniversary. I'm going to give it a strong push here in the last six weeks - but don't think that I'm going to quit then ! I've got about 20-25 pounds to go to reach a healthy BMI - 150 pounds or less. I hope to reach that by the end of 2013. And then there's maintenance. I plan on being a "Sparker" for the rest of my life.
