Healthier, Cheaper

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Today I decided I would take my lunch to work. It would keep me from driving around and passing fast food and restaraunts on my way to my house. I wouldn't waste the gas and wouldn't be tempted for a unhealthy quick fix. I never take my lunch to work so this was big for me...brown bagging it usually means the Brown Bag Special---and I'm not a big sandwich fan.

I opened my fridge and grabbed some left over chicken breast, vegetables, and rice. I decided to make a "bowl"---like at Chipotle or Panda Express. It seemed easy enough---not much thought needed to go into it, I didn't need multiple dishes, and I didn't have to spend a lot of time prepping. I measured it all out and put it in a container, grabbed a water bottle, and piece of fruit and BAM! lunch.

I have to gush about plastic containers now. I absolutely hate that I can never find the right lid for whatever plastic container I want to use. I decided I was going to buy my own plasticware that I could tell from my moms. I found the "kiddie" lunch set in the SP store and bought it a few weeks ago...I had yet to use it. I used one of the pieces today! It was great. I highly recommend them to everyone. They are bright and cheery, easy to spot in your cupboard (let alone, the company fridge), and easy to rinse and wipe down at work so you can throw it in the dishwasher when you get home. Another major plus is the measurements on the side.

So, my lunch today was healthier, cheaper, and a little more eco friendly since my container was reuseable. I'm feeling good about it! I just may start taking my lunch on a regular basis.

emoticon on such a healthy step. If you can continue carrying your lunch you should because you can even plan the evening before what you're bringing the next day which will allow you know better what else you can and cannot eat for that day. emoticon emoticon
