Day 32: to breadstick or not to breadstick

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Since my boyfriend leaves to go back to college this Thursday, we have planned to go to Olive Garden tonight for dinner. Normally, I would wait until we sat down, look at the menu, and choose what I wanted. We ALWAYS get an appetizer when we go, so I would assume we'd have fried mozzarella or something of that nature. Today, I decided to look up the menu and all those big Italian calories that go with it and calculate the calories out for what I wanted to eat. It's taken me about a half hour to get through the menu and find something that seemed to be okay. Last year, I would have gotten the fettuccine alfredo and eaten practically the entire thing, plus multiple breadsticks, several helpings of salad, and like I said, we're appetizer people... plus a beverage of the soda variety. Just looking at that list makes me cringe knowing now how many calories and carbs I've previously shoved down my throat and into my body in one sitting.

So I decided that for tonight, I will be choosing ONE helping of salad and ordering the dinner entree of cheese ravioli (I'm on the fence about ordering the meat sauce...). I'm going to ask the waiter/waitress we have to automatically bring me a box so I can pack half of it up so I won't overindulge. And water to drink actually sounds pretty good! This leaves out one obvious detail of appetizer; I'm thinking Ricky can survive a meal without fried cheese.

I'm feeling confident in my decisions right about now. I'm hoping the high I have from working out later will motivate me to stick to my guns and not allow my eyes to stray to other sections of the menu. When I get home from work, I am going to begin Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred followed by a shower and dinner. For now, it's back to work though!

SO... here's the million dollar question - how about those breadsticks??
Stay tuned tonight to find out!

Greg job prepping your restaurant meal ahead of time! I'll have to give that a try next time we dine out. I like the box idea as well. I hope the dinner went well, you stuck to your plan, and had a great workout! Let us know!

one thing that I do too is order off the kids menu. Most of the time the server is willing to give it to you even though you don't meet the recommended age requirement. :) So it never hurts to ask to eat off of it too! :)
