Change Your Mindset

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

We feel most comfortable with people who agree with our way of thinking,
and have a lot in common with us,
but it is usually someone who is a little different from us
and who inspires us with new ideas
that open our minds to new possibilities and makes us stretch.
What they do helps to create seeds for thought
that may enrich our lives and change our future.

The challenges they present to us may make us feel
a little out of our comfort zone
but sometimes we need those human alarm clocks to wake us up...
that life is a series of changes, and learning, and adapting
or you just wither and die...trying to hold on to what is over and done.

That which doesn't kill you ... makes you strong
{...even if you have to put up with the Pain in the Tush...} emoticon

Keep facing the sun and weather new challenges that help you grow.
Change your mindset and keep becoming the person you want to be.

Another beautiful day....
time for some exercise and strength training.

Well said Sheryl. That is what I like about SP. There are tons of people who give us reason to stop and ponder just by what they do. They help create seeds for thought
that may enrich our lives and change our future. Thanks for letting me borrow your words.

Growth and change always occur outside the comfort zone. Even if you don't agree, it gives you the opportunity to learn something new or think about something a different way.

Have a great weekend Sheryl!

I wish more people could see me that way! Instead of seeing my difference as a positive challenge to them, they are threatened by it and somehow feel attacked. It's hard when people don't appreciate the positive changes you've made in your life and instead get defensive about them, as if they are an indictment on their own lives. It is tiring to be different, but I will continue to push forward in the direction of growth.

I find this to be true.

Consider people you know who have been married a long time, 25, 30, 40 years. Are they a perfect match? or a perfect (or even an imperfect) fit.

When we married, lots of people thought it was wrong because we were not a match at all. We were so different. But we have been married for 40 years now and keep on going because we are a fit, not a match.

Good advice. I tend to avoid some people who make me uncomfortable though I know I could learn something from everyone. I had that happen years ago as a nurse when I took care of 2 drug addicts in the same room. I tried to not be judgmental and was as kind to them as I could be. It never crossed my mind that they would notice but they both told me once when I came into the room that I was one of the few people there who treated them like human beings. I was stunned and oddly flattered and it strengthened my resolve that all people deserve to be treated the same - with dignity, kindness, and respect. Even the rottenest apple probably has a good spot. LOL.
