Breakthrough!!

Monday, July 29, 2013

So last night with my grandfather in the hospital, I began thinking... if this isn't going to be a turning point in my life, what is? He's battled diabetes for a number of years and now this colon issue, whatever that may be. He's one of my biggest role models, and I need to make him proud for the rest of the precious time I have left with him.

Today I started out with my usual Special K yogurt cereal with fat free skim milk and a banana. Nothing out of the ordinary. Then I go to pack my lunch and realize mom made me a wrap - turkey, lettuce, and tomato on a tortilla. I had a chewy bar as a snack around 10 and at noon broke for lunch. I'd been feeling kind of grumbly at work up until now (case of the Mondays). For lunch, I refrained from any extras other than the wrap and some pretzel twists, and had water to drink. Then, since I was all out of ice in my cup, I decided that I'd take a walk to the school cafeteria (I work on my college campus, for those of you interested enough to read my spazzy blogs, haha). During the stroll, I decided to take a detour and ended up walking .62 miles around my campus before ending up back in the office! I was amazed at myself for deciding spur-of-the-moment to take a walk... and I feel more energized now!! This little spark I've got may even carry over into tonight - we'll see what happens by the time 8:30pm rolls around...

What's important here is that I just FEEL different today. I'm not thinking about food, or the fact that the walking I did was minimal. I'm thinking "Go self! You can do anything you put your mind to!" What I've accomplished so far today isn't huge, but it's a start - my own personal start that only I control. And that's a good feeling. I've realized that just because someone is farther ahead in their journey than I am does not mean they are better or worthier, just that they were ready to go and have paved a path of encouragement for me to follow. I'm going to try my best not to compare myself to others anymore. I'm my own person, and my own biggest supporter. I CAN DO THIS FOR ME!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous, sunny Monday!

Sometimes, all it takes is one "AHA!" moment to get us going again. I'm glad you are having such a great day, and that you posted this blog. Perhaps that positive attitude will rub off on me!

The only time you should compare yourself to others is when you're telling yourself this: "they were at some point where I am now and I can be where they are now in time!" Use other people as inspiration...we're here to talk and give advice, or vent to. No one here should judge you and I can bet you you'll get more positive motivation than negative talk. Ask questions, vent, give advice..be active physically and emotionally. You can do it. And way to give yourself positive talks and for throwing in a walk. It's those small things that resort to bigger things and results, big and small. Never let yourself get down about a gain or small loss...just keep trucking on being happy and healthy. I know when I finish my run and come back to work that the rest of the day I can just concentrate on being healthy, work, house, husband and my horse. Something positive each day is all you need.

It's those little "aha!" Moments that really count! The little steps really do add up...much more than no steps at all. emoticon

Good for you! Those are the exact steps I started my journey with! Short walks to get some kind of cardio in my life, and healthier food choices than I normally made. Every single day on this lifestyle change, is just that, a day. You only have to make it through 24 hours on track. And the next day, just tell yourself the same thing. You can do it girl!
