Day 606- Injured Myself

UGH.

The greatest part about losing so much weight, is how active I've become. However, I've apparently overdone it a bit this time.

After 15 days of JM 30 Day Shred, I've lost 8 pounds! Which is awesome.

However, last night, during my weekly soccer games, I seriously strained my left quad and then got a terrible cramp in my left calf, making my entire left leg pretty worthless today.

I sat in my bathtub full of ice cubes last night, and tried wrapping my quad/calf in an ace bandage to provide support, but I'm just sore.

So I think I'm going to take a break from my seriously intense workouts and soccer, if only for a week, especially because I will be caring for JD this weekend after his spinal surgery on Friday. So if everyone could pray for him or keep him in your thoughts, that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to concentrate on keeping to a strict nutritional plan, since my physical activity is going to be limited. It's frustrating because I know I have left quad problems, and I stretch in an attempt to prevent them every week. And every week I still strain it. But last night it was a severe strain. JD told me to take at least a week off to rest it. And Jillian Michaels is ALOT of squatting that I just don't think I can do right now. So I'm going to put a pause on that. I'm going to try and just walk on my treadmill for an hour to get some cardio in.

    Bummer! Injury is a double disappointment, both from being unable to do what you love to do, and from needing to cut the calorie range while you're unable to be as active as you'd like. I find that I can maintain my weight with appropriate calorie cuts, but the reduction to my appetite lags the reduction in activity. So after an injury, I live through 2 days to a week of feeling hungry while I adjust to the revised nutrition plan.

Of course, it's a lot more fun on the other side when I recover some, am able to be more active, and then need to eat more.

    If this is a recurring injury, perhaps you should see a physical therapist for a little bit ?
Perhaps they could strengthen the area, so it isn't so injury-prone.

    Oh no I hate to hear about your injury. Injuries SUCK!! I agree with everyone's posts about resting! You could always do some upper body work outs to keep moving! I will be thinking of you and JD in the days to follow!! Good Luck with his surgery and taking care of him, I'm sure that will be a job all in its self!! I know you can do it!!     Do what you can and build up slowly. Jillian will be there when you're back up to 100% Focus on your eating and nutrition and do a little each day on the treadmill or walk outside and enjoy the outdoors. You'll be healed in no time.

    Oh no!! I know if anyone can pull through and make the best of things, you can. My grandpa is going into surgery too so I will keep JD in my thoughts as well. Hope everything goes well - try to stay off your leg and stay positive, girl!

    Hoping JD's surgery goes well. My advice on the quad injury - rest and ice. I am just getting back to running after a hamstring strain that took 6 weeks to heal. I could walk and do the elliptical, but I could not run without pain. I used the foam roller and just finally had to stop trying to run and let it heal. You could also try a compression sleeve, the heat from exercise will help bring heat and blood flow to the muscle and promote healing. Good luck and don't push it.

    oh no! I hope that your strain heals soon, but definitely give it enough time to heal completely before jumping back into strenuous workouts. And you can definitely still make progress with moderate walking and keeping tabs on your intake. :) I will most definitely keep JD (and you) in my prayers. I pray for a quick recovery for both of you!

    You could probably still do the 30 Day Shred...except modify what they're doing, just do an entire different exercise when they're doing squats or anything that involves your legs.

    There's nothing as frustrating as being sidelined by an injury. I'm really sorry to hear about your strain. I hope it heals quickly!!! Be patient with yourself as it heals. Prayers for JD.

    Sorry to hear of your injury. It can be frustrating but you do need to take it easy for a short time or it could get worse. You'll be back in no time! Prayers to you both for speedy recoveries!

    Hope that you are back on track with your exercise quickly, I know how hard it is when you have an injury and can not follow the plan you have been doing. Tracking food will help you through this for sure.

    Sorry to hear that. Praying for him, and you to both heal fast. I tend to get shin splints when I do her 30 Day Shred. I just try to stretch, not a lot can be done. *HUGS* You will be back up and running in no time I bet. Congrats on the 8 pounds lost.

    Sorry to hear about your injury but JD is right. You definitely need to take some time off in order to prevent something even worse that could set you back even more. Congrats on losing those 8 pounds! That is phenomenal!!!! You'll be back to kicking but with JM soon enough :)
