Did Some Bargain Shopping with my Husband's Help

Monday, July 29, 2013

I haven't been able to go full time back in the swing of things but I did manage to get to a super double coupon store yesterday (with my husband's help) since they were doubling up to $2 face value coupons ($4 off).

My husband was impressed since he was with me vs. me telling him about it, so I think it made a bigger influence on him. We got some great items and no junk food other than 6-packs of Diet Pepsi that I paid 50 cents for after my coupons.

My original total was $80 and I paid slightly less than $20, so that was very exciting considering I was very uncomfortable (pain still in my groin, abdomen, and back from back spasms) and it was very tiring to me.

The great thing was that I bought some marked down meat that cost $6 and some marked down shredded cabbage for $1 which I didn't have coupons for so it would have been $12 if I had not bought those.

If I feel up to it, I'm going to go with my daughter to a thrift store this Wednesday because they have 50% off the entire store (except for new items) and I need some loose casual dresses since I'm still dealing with a swollen belly from this surgery and don't know how long it will be before I can wear my regular pants again.

I did something too since I had my husband with me to help me carry heavy items and drive me there yesterday, and that was I went to JC Penney's. I had a coupon that was expiring and was hoping to find some dresses, but ended up not being successful with that.

I did find, however, 3 jackets/coats, 2 shirts, a necklace, and a pair of sterling silver earrings all of which were marked down in the clearance sections. I used my coupon to $15 off $75 and for some reason it only took $10 off. I told the cashier and he happened to be a manager in that section and so he took an additional $5 off and so I paid I believe $55!!!!

One of the coats was a jean jacket that I have been wanting forever and it was originally $52 so I did great to get all that I did for a total of $55. I was so happy after that, but incredibly swollen in my belly area (which gets more swollen the more activity I did), but I expected that to happen.

Today I will probably rest a good bit as those type of activities (particularly clothes shopping) are things that I can't do much of at this point, but I have to keep looking from time to time since my pants I wore before surgery are too uncomfortable on my incision (hip to hip cut) and my abdomen is still swollen. My weight is the same so it's not weight-related.

Aldi's is awesome. That is where I sent my husband when I was recovering from my surgery since I knew he would never do coupon shopping, LOL. I stock up on their fruits/vegetables all the time as well as other things that they have that we use regularly.

I wish they had a little more to chose from than they do but I'm not complaining as I am so thankful that we have them in our area.

That stinks that you don't have super doubles or doubles in your area anymore. I am so thankful that we do since it saves so much money for my household. If the two stores that double in my area quit, I guess I would probably do a lot of shopping at Aldi's although I do quite a bit there already, LOL.

I wish we still had super doubles. Come to think of it I would be happen just to have double coupons. We only have 1 store left that still doubles, everyone else has quit doing it.
