An answer (in part) to my cluttered basement!

Sunday, July 28, 2013

I want to sell our condo and move 'back home' to have more support just living and also caring for DH. But... many things from our former home are in our basement, including an entire wood working work shop! emoticon emoticon

I offered machines to family, but no bites. It overwhelmes emoticon me trying to sell the machines on ebay. Selling these one at a time is just too overwhelming for me. I barely can keep our ship afloat as is. emoticon

I have asked a few people about buying these machines. No bites in 7 years. emoticon Two guys showed up at my door, a former health aide and his Dad, They want the stuff!!!!!! emoticon

We made a list and they will research the online prices for used machines. emoticon I have looked at the prices myself but it drives me crazy! I was delighted when they said they would research the prices. They need the specs and manufacturers so I gave them the box of manuals for the machines!

It is really hard finding someone to take all the machines. emoticon Most people want them but don't have the space or money to do that. This guy wants everything and his Dad apparently is willing to help!! emoticon

This would solve a huge problem for me. I am so grateful!

It is truly an answer to prayers. emoticon Now I need to pray many Thank Yous, too! emoticon

The guy was a fantastic aide for my husband. I just can't afford to still pay him for that daily. I pay and aid to get DH up in the morning, but putting him to bed I do it. I have just hired someone cheaper for 2 afternoons a week to do his exercises with him and give him lunch.

Praise the Lord for smoothing things out for you to move 'back home'. I pray everything about it goes well, and that you indeed do get the support you so richly deserve. I'm praying you'll get a good price for the woodworking equipment. It's wonderful that they are interested in it all.

Isn't it wonderful when our prayers are answered? I am so glad you have such nice people who are interested in the tools and stuff - one more cleaning job on the way.

At some point, I'd be willing to just give it all away, just simply so I didn't have to deal with it. That you're getting some money for it is a nice bonus.

So glad you found someone to buy the woodworking equipment! Sell it for what you can get and be done with it! (My electrician friend who retired and moved out of the country tried to get a fair price -- he ended up stuck with a LOT of stuff).

I think moving to where you have family and/or a support network would be really beneficial, hope it works out for you! emoticon

You should still spend some time looking up prices too, just so you know you're getting fair prices. You don't need to know exactly how much, just a ballpark. I'm not saying they'll take advantage of you, but it's better to protect yourself just in case. Even if the machines are worth $10,000 and you accept $8,000 just to get rid of them, that's better than them saying they're worth $2,000 and offering $1,500. While your husband is still in rehab is a good time to work on things like this.

Before you move back home, take some time to really consider what that means. If you're moving a significant distance away, you'll have to get all new doctors and services for you and your husband. You'll have to hire all new aides - or you'll have to make sure that your family will step in and help when they're scheduled to help. You'll have to find a home that is adequate for both your husband's and your needs, and within your price range. You'll have to pack up all of your belongings, rent a moving truck, haul it all into the truck, drive it to the new home, unload it, return the truck, and unpack it all - while you're also having to take care of your husband. If you can't do it yourself, you'll still have to hire someone to do the moving for you, or pay even more for them to pack and unpack everything for you - and risk damage or loss of items. This is a lot for anyone to handle, but it can be done if you're willing to put in the time and effort over months to do it. If you really want to move back home and get more help, start by making a list of everything you'd need to do to make that happen then break each step down into what it would take to complete each step (like setting up a schedule for family, friends, and aides to help with your husband, finding moviing companies, etc). When you know what you need to do and how to accomplish each step, then you can make the most informed decisions possible.

Sounds like a dream come true. What to do with all my stuff, and most of it is not nearly as valuable as wood working machinery, is what holds me a back. I just can't see throwing all of it into a landfill. I hold out for a solution to come as yours did!

I wish you well and hope the machines sell as well as your condo. Life is full of twists and turns isn't it? It is wonderful that you can keep DH at home with you but at the same time it's very hard I'm sure. I will keep you in my prayers.

God answers prayers in His time which is definitely not always ours!!! I am so glad this will work out for you with the wood working machines. Perhaps you can tackle a little bit each day on cleaning things out to prepare for the selling. Then it won't be so overwhelming. Keeping you in prayer. Pat
