Mother of the Bride Blues

Sunday, July 28, 2013

Hi all you brave Sparkies,
this is a little poem/song I wrote about 3 years ago, around the time my daughter Laura was getting married. I was plump, unfit and rather sad. Little did I know that 3 years later I would have discovered SparkPeople and have lost 9 kg of weight and would be able to run 5k without a break! Yeah!

Mother of the Bride Blues

Feeling rather down at heel,
(was I ever in my prime?)
boobs slackened southwards -
a sign of passing time.

My throat´s all lizard lined,
is that a treble chin?
don´t glance down beyonder -
a dare you never win.

New micro macro diet
was nearly on the cards -
then I worried I would wrinkle,
feel just saggy and sad.

"I´ve got Mother of the Bride
middle aged blue blues
pneumatic ringed midriff -
all faded pale blue blues …." (sad saxaphone warbling)

Decked out in satin,
spare tire(s) on display
Stick a flower in my hat,
well - my ankles are okay.

Ignore the wedding now
My mind is going wild
have a soothing cup of tea,
choc bikkies on the side.

Dream those haunches away
(love handles, my eye)
Sling my high heels on the lawn
Dance barefoot with my guy.

"I´ve got Mother of the Bride
short sighted grey blue blues
no hope for that zip now -
those veins are all blue blues ……" (Satchmo style serenade)
that was me on the day of the wedding, sucking in my midriff!

Three years on I do look slimmer.... !
