Wk 120 Weigh In

Saturday, July 27, 2013

The weather here has been hot, just like last week. I am tired of this heat as it seems to be draining me of all energy. I had a fairly lousy week diet wise. The last few weeks I'd been taking my cheat day on Sunday for various reasons, but still having a good sized dinner on Saturday, so it was almost like having 2 cheat days. Well this week, it was my brother's birthday on Monday and we had a big turkey dinner; turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes... I was pretty good with that meal, a small amount of mashed potatoes and a small serving of dressing with about 10 ounces of turkey. Overall not too bad. But then there was dessert. My mom makes this layered dessert with chocolate graham crackers between layers of vanilla pudding topped with a chocolate frosting... it's soo good. She also made a cinnamon roll cake that I found online. That recipe calls for 3, yes 3 cubes of butter and it was almost impossible to stop eating it!

So this weeks numbers look like this:

Weight : 210.6
Gain : 1.6
Total : 106.6

Yep, I gained and I'm not surprised at all. This week I've gone back to Saturday as my free day, I think the Sunday experiment is over, it was too easy to cheat a little on Saturday then cheat some more on Sunday.

On top of all of that, I just don't feel good. My back is causing me a massive amount of discomfort deep inside and the pinching of nerves is causing me to have a lot of left hip pain, which is never any fun. Also, the last couple of days my left upper arm bone (which is always partially out of socket (shoulder) due to injuries) has been moving around in the socket causing me much pain and limiting the strength and usefulness of my arm. All of this has caused me to have a dull aching headache at the base of my skull... Ain't life grand?

Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug, right now I feel like the bug.

Hey bro! hang in there! You'll be coming up north and I garanty you you won't be that hot in November! Don't you have some sort of support for your shoulder? To stop it from moving so much? It is not fun to have to suffer that much.

You are a tough one! with all that you are not giving up! You're my hero!

Have a good day

I am so sorry to read about the pain you are experiencing! I do hope this week will be much better for you and that your shoulder will also improve. I am struggling on an off with sciatica (all weight gain related, like my tendinitis problem on my feet), and I am so glad it is mostly under control at the moment.
Please take good care of yourself! As for your eating this week.... I am not worried, you don't have another brother celebrating his birthday, do you? ;-)

Oh, turkey and dressing and mashed potatoes?? How on earth did you control yourself with that on the table?! That sounds super-yummy!! Now I'm drooling over Thanksgiving dinner and we have almost 4 months before we get there!

I'm hurting pretty bad right now too, so I get where you're coming from. My is all self-inflicted though - from beach volleyball to running to tearing apart my kitchen and remodeling this weekend. I'm hurting now, but my tiled countertop looks FANTASTIC!!!

Hope this week is looking better for you - make it awesome :)

Aww..I'm so sorry that you're having such a rough time with pain. You must find some time to rest your body, although, sometimes some exercises feel better than resting. (Speaking from experience). I hope you find a solution for all your pains.

Why does all the great tasting desserts have to be so bad for you? Considering how you described those sweets, a 1.6 lb. gain isn't so bad. You'll get rid of it again, soon. emoticon emoticon and feel better soon!

Sorry for your pain and your gain. But sounds like you had good family time and can regroup next week. I am back at my daughter's and back on track after gaining back part of what I have lost since I arrived in the US. Hope to lose the rest this week.

Ken, I'm sorry about all the pain. It can really wear you down. My advice would be to increase your non-starchy vegetable portions as the anti-oxidants are anti inflammatory. At the same time reduce the animal protein as it is inflammatory.
But I have no advice about the desserts. I'd be right there in the buffet line-up. emoticon

First of all...is there anything that you can do for your back. Do you ice it? How about anti- inflammatories...it sounds like you need a little more than just rest. Chronic pain ( I know) can drive you to drink...wait or eat as the case may be so take care of yourself man!

As for the food...goodness those desserts sounded yummy...I know I couldn't resist but today as I sat with a girl friend who turned 46 and we had our dessert and talked about men or lack there of I know that my chances of getting into a LTR (long term relationship) being 347 pounds are close to the odds of winning some sort of lottery.

So once again I will commit to be fit...or in my case lower my calorie/fat/carb count.

I read that if you want to do a favour for your brain power fast at least 12 hours a day and allow the blood sugar to diminish and this is good for your brain. I am trying to not eat after dinner but boy oh boy 50 years of bedtime snacks are hard to break.

I better go this chatty Cathy (likely the sugar talking) needs to hit the hay! emoticon

CURSED desserts!!! Oh I feel your pain on that subject. I am sorry about the physical pain though. I am a real weenie for pain and discomfort of any kind and I can't imagine having all that going on at one time. I admire your candor and the way you put the truth of your week right out on the table. I believe it's what makes you the strong, and respected SP friend that you are. May the good you share with everyone ring out into the universe and send back healing and comfort that you deserve so that you can continue with a smile.

Sorry to hear your back is still bothering you. I know what you mean in terms of having too many days off but I am confident that you'll get it back on track.

Sorry for the pain you are suffering. It sounds absolutely wretched and I hope you find comfort soon. Of course, that kind of pain might make me want to eat ALL of your Mom's cake ... like all by myself ...for Medicinal Purposes, mind ya. ;-)

Anyway, after the feast you describe, coming away with only a 1.6 gain actually sounds amazing to me ... Truly. So, I say, well done!

Sounds like you got a good plan going back to Saturday as a cheat day. Never thought about having a cheat day before but it sure sounds better than to me than simply cheating (which we all do from time to time) and then feeling like a failure for having done so.

Hope you feel better very soon. emoticon

Oh yeah you sound like the 'bug' got splatted on the windshield big time. Hey 1.6 is great --you didn't put on all 3 sticks of butter...win.. win...I thought you must still be sore as you were absent from SP more than usual.

Feel better soon-we need you- we can't unload on you if you feel bad :) :)

Hope there is some relief for you next week, from pain the heat and the pain!!!!

I have arthritis in my lower spine....have had since I carried my only child over 40 years ago. I noticed that when I walk, like when I am grocery shopping, first I have sharp stabbing pains, then my leg gets the pins and needles, last legs numbs to the knee. The thing is when I was working out at the pool that calcium deposits wore off without any ill effects, while in the pool. I could walk for miles...3 or so. Now that I have not been in the pool it has gotten bad again. Just one more reason to get to the Wellness Center and workout at the pool. My favorite instructor had to quit and I stopped going. emoticon The facts about eating is it is hard to change cheat days because your head don't care you are going to cheat tomorrow it wants satisfaction now....then forgets about it the next day. I do hope you get relief with your back...have you ever thought of going to a chiropractor? I had a pinched nerve in my back and my neck froze up...He fixed me ....
