Another round with a needle... sigh

Friday, July 26, 2013

So, I take blood thinners to prevent another blood clot. I have already had a stroke and a pulmonary embolism because my blood clots too fast due to Leiden Factor Five. That is fine. I know I have to take them and I do. The problem is when my levels get all wacky. Whether I am not eating enough leafy greens or too much, how much water I am drinking, and the amount of exercise I get all seem to affect my levels. For some reason my level of blood thinner in my blood got too high this month. That means dosage adjustments and repeated blood work. I can deal, but it is a pain. I have had to go for blood work three days in a row... and I have to go again on Monday. I am not squeamish about needles, in fact I usually watch while they stick it in my arm, but after a while my veins start refusing. Not sure if it is scar tissue, or just cussedness, but my veins don't want to be poked anymore right now. Okay, I am done whining now. emoticon

I did get quite a bit accomplished today. I walked the dog this morning, then went and ran errands in my dad's truck, including another dump run, and thrift store drop. I also got garbage bags and more gloves among other things. Then a friend came to visit. I got laundry and some light cleaning done while she went to the grocery store for me. I also walked the dog again while she was at the store. After she dropped off my groceries and left I went out to my parents' house and made them dinner. Mom had a craving for ratatouille, and I just happened to have all the ingredients, so I made a big pot. There was enough for the three of us to all have good sized servings, as well as enough leftovers for probably another three servings. I don't know how to make a small pot of ratatouille, so I was happy to have the opportunity to share it... that way I am not eating it for a week! emoticon After dinner I helped mom fold and sort clothes, then came home and walked the dog again, before going for a run.

For exercise today I had the three dog walks, two yoga videos, and a 2.4 mile run. I ran this evening, so I was a bit self conscious running past the bars on a Friday night. The college kids aren't back yet, so the bars aren't really busy even on a Friday night, but there were people standing outside smoking or talking on their phones. I guess I need to run earlier or take a different route on the weekends. I might run at my parents' house tomorrow, if I don't get it in done in the morning before I go back out there. I still have a significant amount of cleaning to do in my mom's old room. There is a dresser, two bookshelves and three desks that I have to sort and empty. I am taking precautions since there is so much evidence of mouse activity in there. I wear long sleeves and pants, gloves, and a dust mask. I don't need to contract some fatal disease from breathing old mouse turds. Yuck!

I have some family members that have Leiden Factor Five. I should get tested but haven't done it yet. It sounds like you are doing a great job of taking care of yourself all the way around though and taking care of your parents on top of that.

It sounds like you have a big mess to clean up. It's good that you are taking precautions with the mask and gloves. emoticon

Just rent an industrial vacuum and suck it all up!! Sound like Mom is okay with what you're doing, maybe even relieved that she doesn't need to deal with it??

And think, there is no way you would have been able to do do this even one year ago. While cleaning out mouse turds and getting "stuck" repeatedly is no fun, fingers crossed that you find an end to both processes soon!

I know too well what a pain blood thinners and the constant checking of levels can be!
I feel for you! You are taking great care of yourself in spite of the other factors you have to deal with, I applaud you for that.
You have made great progress in your Mom's house, sounds like you are getting close to finishing it - good job, fantastic daughter!

Really sorry to hear about you having Leiden Factor Five. That along with already having stroke and a pulmonary embolism, you have quite a job doing this SP program. I admire you even more knowing this about you.

Glad to see you and your pup are back walking and probably have been long before I noticed this today. I am losing my dog to walk as she is getting to old to really want to do much walking, but still loves a short sniff adventure. The nose knows and she loves to smell every branch and bush.

You are smart to stay away from mice droppings as they can cause many different illness', not the least of these is the disease of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome: the disease is spread by breathing in dust that is contaminated with rodent urine or droppings or direct contact with rodents or their urine and droppings.

Have a great weekend!

It goes to show how long it has been since your mom was able to enjoy her room or go through her things if the mice have made their presence known so abundantly. It's the turds that look like peppercorns that you need to worry most about- glad you are taking precautions of mask and gloves ( and shower after) Hopefully your mom will be able to help with the sort as you clear each item of furniture and bring their stored bounty downstairs. You are one day closer to getting this part of the job done emoticon
