Visiting my mom with my girls for a week each summer is so much fun, but it inevitably brings a week of indulgences without much of a chance to exercise. I am going to report about my week of fun without any guilt because I am over it and I enjoyed myself!
We left on Monday morning for the three hour trip by car and arrived early afternoon just in time to spend the afternoon in the pool. Had a nice dinner of home-made beet soup with a salad and beer outside. I skipped dessert.
On Tuesday, my roommate from college came down from MA with her baby to spend the day with me and the girls by the pool. Mom made pizza with salad and fruit for lunch and bakery goodies from my favorite bakery for dessert. I skipped the baked goods which was very difficult since I have not found a bakery like this one in NJ yet. ( It is the basic bakery with home-made bread, doughnuts, danish, and all the rest. I brought a box home with treats for my hubby.) That night we had home-made meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy, salad and string beans from the garden. I still did not have dessert. (So far, I am doing well, right?).
Wednesday brought some challenges. We took the girls to the Mystic Aquarium in the morning and then to the Seaview Snack Bar on the Mystic River for lunch. Mom and I really wanted lobster salad rolls for lunch. It was delicious. Of course I indulged in some clam strips and french fries the girls were eating too. Then, we went to visit my grandmother and had a piece of home-made Italian Rum cake. I was not allowed to say no to my Italian grandmother. You have to eat something when you visit or it is an insult. And that was not all because we left there and took the girls for ice-cream at Buttonwood Farm. Home-made pumpkin ice-cream in a freshly made waffle cone was my dinner that night. It was worth it!!!
Yesterday was rainy and cold with a high of 56 degrees. Took the kids to McDonald's playscape and had coffee. Then, we went shopping. Got two new dresses that I would never have looked at, let alone try on, before losing my weight so that was a nice treat. After having a turkey sandwich with home-made pickles for lunch, the girls took a nap and I had tea and chatted with mom. She made raviolis with home-made meatballs and sauce for dinner with garlic bread. Yum!!!!! I also had a light beer with it. I skipped the ice cream last night.
This morning, I got up and picked up some treats from the bakery, putting a candle in the cinnamon bun for my mom. Her birthday is tomorrow. The girls sang happy birthday and I split the bun with her. I took the rest of the treats home with me, probably should not have done that, but I know my hubs and the girls will enjoy them throughout the weekend. I will limit myself after this very indulgent week. As soon as I got home today, I am back on the health train. Just had a yogurt for a snack and tracked my food for the day.
I will update you with my weight tomorrow since I did not have a scale this morning. No matter what the number, it was a fun and delicious week, worth every calorie.
Update: Weighed in this morning, Saturday, July,27, at 132.8 lbs. I am very happy that I am below my goal weight again and enjoyed my week away. Starting to get the hang of this life-style change. Going for a bike ride this morning to get back into the exercise mode again.
