Well I am ready to begin this challenge! I have read over the assignments and have decide to basically write one big blog to include all of them (since I signed up late and am behind). So here goes!
I have participated in these challenges a few years ago but never fully committed. I believe that was because deep down I never thought I could be successful at losing weight. I have always been big and have never lost ore than 10 -20 pounds ever. But I guess with age comes wisdom as they say. After just celebrating my 42nd birthday I mentally feel as though I am ready to do this. I truly believe the whole mind over matter! Before my mind is what stopped me. Now my mind is in the right place to succeed.
My goals for this challenge are to lose the 5% which for me would be about 12 pounds. Stay within the calorie range set for me by Spark people. Walk for 30 minutes every day.
My children and my health are the main reasons I want to lose weight. I am at a high risk for diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. I want to be around and healthy for my children (son 14 and daughter 8 1/2). I also want to be a better role model for them. Seeing their mom eating fast food and laying on the couch watching TV is not a good example.
My trigger food is fast food (especially McDonalds). I will eat there any chance I get. My biggest struggle is when I would get out of work I would drive there and get a meal on the way to pick up my daughter from school. At lot of times I wasn't even hungry but I couldn't stop myself from going. I will be able to counter this in the coming year because now my daughter goes to the same school I work at. So no reason to pass it on the way to pick her up. We have also decided to walk home from school everyday (which is 2 miles) so that will defiantly stop the chances of me passing through the drive thru!
I think just by watching my portions I have managed to cut calories. I would think I was cooking healthy meals for my family, but when the recipe says it serves 8 and my family of 4 wipes it out with no leftovers it turns out not to be so healthy. So I have changed my cooking to only cook things that serves 4-6 people so we either have no leftovers or only 1-2 servings so that my son and husband can have something to take for lunch the next day. We also always eat a salad first and no one can get seconds until everything is eaten on their plates.
My routine will be a little different for the next 2 weeks before I can get into my normal routine. I am a cafeteria manager at an elementary school so I have 2 weeks left of summer vacation before school is back in full swing. So for the next 2 weeks I will be able to really plan and prepare my meals at home and exercise when ever I feel like it and do a little bit of different things ( like swimming). When I go back to school on 8/12 I will pre pack my breakfast and lunch the night before so it is ready to go the next day. I will go back to using my crock pot a lot for my dinner meals and my exercise will be walking home 2 miles every week day. I know I just need to plan ahead and I will be able to stay on track.
As for motivational mantra I have always been a fan of nike's Just Do It!!!!
So as Saturday 7/27 approaches I am ready physically and mentally to take on this challenge!
