Unexpected summer project

Friday, July 26, 2013

Husband (newly retired) took a trip to visit relatives (down south). Most everything is down south as we are in Alaska. He took one of our son's with him. While gone only 3 days - we smelled fuel downstairs. Followed the smell & found the home fuel oil tank leaking out back...and it had just been filled (275 gallons). I had no idea who to call - thought of calling 911. [Still wonder what they would have done??] Anyway, I ended up calling a friend up the hill from us because they own many properties & a Bed & Breakfast. That was a divinely ordered call. The friend is 75 y.o. & he showed up, assessed the situation & went & got 5 "empty" fuel drums (50 gallon) that he happened to have. Who else would have had these type drums available & empty? Maybe fuel company - - for a price.

So...in the end he (friend) siphoned out all the fuel to the drums. Then...5 wks later husband came home & we got a new fuel tank, painted it...[smashed my finger trying to move it]...but it is now in place & the fuel put back in.

The old tank was rusted out [under the paint] you couldn't see it otherwise. The tank was only 13 yrs. old. But we do get an excess amount of rain here.

Glad it's over with. emoticon
