They've been Sparked!

Friday, July 26, 2013

Wowie wow…work was insane yesterday! emoticon

Here's the really awesome part, the part that kept me going for the ENTIRE rest of the shift….

I was discharging a patient that had come to the ER with chest pain…the complete work up was done and it was found NOT to be cardiac, but rather anxiety. I was going over all of the test results with the patient and their spouse, and when we got to the glucose level that was high the spouse said, "And I bet you went through McDonalds and ate crap for breakfast." Of course the patient said "yeah, I did." We talked about what being pre-diabetic means, and the patient's spouse chimed in "obviously, as you can see, we both need to lose a lot of weight, we are unhealthy." To this comment I waived my hands over my own body and said, "I get it, it's not easy." And THEN….yep….wait for it………………….

I said "You guys should try It's a totally free website that you can track your food and exercise and there's a TON of helpful stuff on there. I've been using it faithfully again and I love it!"

OH YES I DID!!!! I totally spread that spark to them!!!!! They wrote the website down and were really excited to go home and sign up! AND thanked me for telling them about it!

Honestly, it made me happy for the rest of the day. I couldn't give them my Spark name because they were patients, and I don't know if a "social" relationship is ethical…but, I hope they do well and wish them the best of luck.

As for me…I'm off and looking for another successful day in this journey toward health and wellness!

You go girl! Spread the spark. Keep up the good work. Keep taking your lunch and take time to eat. I too am a RN and work nights. There is always sweets, pizza or something around...but I take my allotted food and stick to the plan. But if I do have eat something...then I will take the calories and not beat myself up. Glad you are back on sparkpeople. Stick with it. You motivate us.
Keep on Sparkin'.
