Day 67: Switching nutrition gears

Friday, July 26, 2013

If you've read my blogs before, you know I've been suffering from a host of stupid physical ailments that annoy me more than anything. They're not serious - and they could certainly be worse - but they are painful and irritating and standing in the way between me and my end goals.

Today I had another chiropractic appointment (I go three times a week - it truly does help, and I'd be in better shape if I hadn't inflamed my sciatica last week). The doctor suggested I limit or eliminate dairy and carbs to help speed up healing. I am supposed to focus on meat, fruits, and vegetables. He thinks it could be something internal that's slowing down my healing process.

I've been reading about healing inflammation through foods, and this is pretty sound. I have some grocery shopping to do tomorrow, so I'll be going to the store in town that has the best produce and doing some serious shopping!

I have to agree with golffma that the food we eat does determine how we feel! For me, too many carbs, (and especially sugar) will make many things flare up. Funny how food can really determine how we do feel. I do so much better when I stick to "clean eating" which is how I grew up eating. Most importantly we need to stay away form all processed foods! Not easy but doable.

You know....when I eat off plan (meat, veggies, good fats), my sciatica flares up! It's so frustrating. Good luck to you...you can do it!

My doctor is telling me she thinks I may have a whey intolerance like my mother has. I keep complaining to her about my sleep and energy levels not being right. I have eliminated dairy (accept whey protein), sugar, processed foods, caffeine, etc.... And I exercise regularly, but I still feel tired. She wants me to change to a whey free protein powder to see if that makes a difference but I am struggling to find one I like the taste of, they all have a gross after taste, I have to find one I like soon. I am just too frustrated with the inflammation in my lower back and my energy drained.... It has made a huge difference in my mom since she stopped having any. Good luck, I home things clear up for you!

BTW accept for the whey issue, I do feel a lot better clean eating. It can be hard when you go out with people but for the most part I feel better then I did. Once I can get thru the issues I am still having, I know I will be unstoppable and so will you! emoticon

That is pretty much the route I'm seeing myself headed. I had cut way back, but had a sandwich yesterday and I felt groggy the rest of the day.

I started making green smoothies and I love them! Easy and lots of energy!!!

I also struggled with sciatica issues last year, but started using essential oils and that has pretty much eliminated the pain. My husband also bought an inversion table (which helps to decompress the spin) so when I start to feel myself getting tight I get on that for 5-10 minutes and I feel fine. Well worth the investment.

Keep pressing forward!

Amazing! I have a friend who needs this info. She has been seeing a chiropractor for months. Seems the food we eat determine how we feel always. emoticon
