Why it shouldn't happen Overnight.

Friday, July 26, 2013

I had a rough time at work yesterday because I had had only 3 hours of sleep the night before. One of the things I do to stay awake sometimes is sing softly to my MP3 player. I probably drove my co-worker nuts yesterday. emoticon Oops!

Anyway, those of you who sort of know me probably know by now that I emoticon emoticon emoticon. I have music playing in my head just about 24/7 even when no music is actually playing. I wake up in the night or in the morning with songs in my head. I just relate to music in a special way, I guess.

Yesterday one of the songs I was singing really struck a chord with me. emoticon Pun intended!! emoticon This song says clearly to me that if we lost weight (or reached some other goal) overnight, we wouldn't truly appreciate the lessons we learn along the way or the satisfaction of the hard work that goes into reaching that goal.

It's called Overnight, sung by Amy Grant & her daughter Sarah Chapman.

OVERNIGHT
So, you've handed in your resignation,
Contemplatin' why nothin' turns out right.
A little fed up with all the disappointments,
So what's the point in wastin' any time?

It's only temporary, so what's your hurry?
No need to worry. Don't you know that,

[Chorus:]
If it all just happened overnight,
You wouldn't know how much it means. Ye-ah
If it all just happened overnight,
You would never learn to believe
In what you cannot see, Oo-oh
What you cannot see.

I feel like pace is at a standstill.
Do I wait till it falls into my hands?
A long highway ahead, gettin' started.
Steady hearted, is what I think I am.

There's somethin' to be said for experience.
Who knows what's ahead? Keep on goin'.

[Chorus]

(Take it a day, a day at a time) One foot in front of the other,
(Take it a day, a day at a time) No need to hurry, hurry.
(Take it a day, a day at a time) It won't happen overnight.
It won't happen overnight.

Have a little faith, (Have a little faith)
Must appreciate, (Must appreciate)
Every single day, Don't give up, no.
[2x]

Here's a youtube link so you can hear the song. It has a very catchy tune. www.youtube.com/watch?v=

I just love this part:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If it all just happened overnight,
You wouldn't know how much it means.
If it all just happened overnight,
You would never learn to believe
In what you cannot see.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Even if the scale isn't moving, there is magic happening in your body.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Take it a day, a day at a time) One foot in front of the other,
(Take it a day, a day at a time) No need to hurry, hurry.
(Take it a day, a day at a time) It won't happen overnight.
It won't happen overnight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Stay the course, my friends! We'll get there in due time . . . together.

I'm headed out of town for a couple of days for some R&R. I'll be blogging again on Monday.

Blessings to you!! emoticon emoticon

    Thanks for this, I'm listening now. I used to listen to Amy Grant a lot in the early 90s. I can play music back in my head too.

    That's the way it is in all things. If things come too easy, people don't appreciate them.

I'll be trudging along right beside you...and as Paul said, "I have learned to be content in whatever situation I'm in." Phil. 4:11 emoticon

    I really like that song (haven't heard it before) and I love that it was a mother/daughter duet! Really cool! Great message, and one that I really needed to hear this morning. Beginning to get a little discouraged that the scale isn't moving lately!

Have a great, safe trip!

    I don't know the song, but it is funny I was trying to get this type of message across to my son that earning something is the best way to appreciate it even if it takes months.

    That is beautiful! I'll have to dowload that.

I am like you, I have to have music all the time. Very often a remark someone makes will remind me of a line or two of a song. People have commented I have a jukebox in my head.

Yesterday while I was running, even though I was listening to songs on my iPhone, I heard "It's Possible" in my head from the 60's TV version of Cinderella.

Keep singing!

    Wow! Thank you so much for writing this blog and bringing this particular song to my attention! I too am very influenced by music and think that Amy Grant is greatly under-rated. I love her music -- which is in fact her ministry. This song is really beautiful and I'll be hearing a lot more of it thanks to you! Have a fabulous weekend, my so-inspiring friend! emoticon

    I get that way too, though I haven't been listening as much...still while reading certain scriptures, a song associated with it will come to mind (of course this happens a lot while reading the Psalms). My late DH and I would occasionally burst into songs that the situation would bring to mind (much to our kids' embarrassment, but now THEY do it TOO). Music is one of God's gifts to us for self-expression!
