Thought and Prayer for Friday, July 26, 2013

Success can be defined as the attainment of wealth, favor or fame. However, that is a worldly view of success. The world wants us to believe there is a secret to success. We see ads, receive emails and read books about finding the secret to success which entices us to read, to buy and to search for success everywhere but in God’s word. The definition and instructions for success in life is written in His Book. We can’t have true success if we don’t know and obey God.

Joshua 1:7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we want to know You. We want to seek You. We want to follow Your direction rather than the world’s. Help us to know that true success comes from being obedient to You. We know there is no secret to the success You want us to have and we can find that success when we get into Your word, spend time with You and follow Your command. Help us to do exactly that today, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Some look for success in the world but those who truly find success are the ones who know God.

Some look for success in the job but focusing on work all the time will not bring us the success God wants us to have.

Some look for success in wealth but desiring money will cause greed and envy.

Some look for success in becoming famous but it really doesn’t matter what others think of us. Only what God thinks.

Some look for success in getting what others have but that just keeps us busy trying to be someone we are not.

Ecclesiastes 4:4 “Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.” (NLT)
