Today was the day that the kids would strike out for Colorado. First thing this morning, 7:00, Carolyn texted me asking me to bring the Jeep Liberty over so I could collect their dog and his cage which he would need for shipment west on 1 August.
Except when I looked out the window, it wasn't there.
Patrick is the primary driver of that vehicle. Patrick is 21 and can stay out all night if he wishes but almost never does. So if he's not home at 7:00 AM I worry. But there were no messages on my phone from the State Police.
And "No news is good news."
I love that expression. It's so yin/yang. All news is bad news or The absence of news is a good thing. In this case, the latter prevailed. I called him. He answered. Panic averted.
Then I stepped outside. The weather was such that the word that escaped my lips was --
The old thermometer on the wall read 57ºF (13.9ºC). It was perfect for running. It has been so bad for running lately and this morning was absolutely perfect.
And I had promised to be at Carolyn and David's at 8:00 AM to keep Colin out of the way as they packed the car and swept the house.
It's OK. I did my promised detail. And we walked a lot around Hampden.
We went to lunch
They pulled away around 1:00. I went home, changed my clothes and around 3:00 went for a run anyway.
It was still only about 70ºF (20ºC) so while not as good as it was at 7:00, it was still good.
A welcome change.
