Achilles Tendon Clearly On The Mend!

Thursday, July 25, 2013

VERY thrilled that I did not experience any issues with my Achilles tendon after a light run on Tuesday. Swam laps yesterday, will do strength training today, and as I did on Tuesday, I'll add some glute training to my strength training routine. Plan to run again on Friday, probably still on the treadmill at the Y, as the outside trails I like to run on have more than my fair share of tripping hazards and opportunities to injure the tendon. If tomorrow's run goes well, I'll start doing some light outdoor running next week.

And this is from someone who HATED running for the first 50+ years of his life! I'm hooked!

When I was at the physical therapist today, I saw a chart of expected recovery times. I think Achilles tendonitis recovery was estimated at 12 weeks; but the underlying assumption was, the question was answered for people who had it bad enough to get physical therapy. If yours wasn't that bad, I don't know how much shorter your recovery should be.

Isn't it ironic how what used to be great cause for an excuse is now an annoyance?

Great keep up the strength training - helps prevent FUTURE sidelines.

See you on the running path!
