Walking in the rain

Thursday, July 25, 2013

I have been working hard lately at getting at least a few miles in early every morning. If I don't do it then, often I don't get a chance. I also sneak short walks in during the day. For instance, I work from home and every hour or two I'll go for a 10 or 15 minute walk around some blocks around my house. It's easier now that it has been in the 80's instead of close to 100 like June was. And sometimes because of our rains now it's either overcast or there is a nice cool breeze. I'm so enjoying it.
It rained all night last night. Earlier in the evening a heavy downpour, then a slow steady rain for hours. At 5:30 it was still drizzling. So I decided to go for my walk anyway. I didn't mind the drizzle. It felt kind of good and I wasn't chilly or anything. If runners go out in all kinds of weather, why not walkers. I run sometimes, but not consistently and haven't this week although I did twice last week. So I walked 2.75 miles in the drizzling rain. I didn't take my umbrella and sort of wished I had but then it really wasn't that bad so I was fine without it. Lots of water running in the streets and mud. I got my shoes soaked in places I couldn't avoid stepping in water. But it was fun. I'm so grateful for the rain we are getting because we need every bit of it. I'm grateful I have the health to get out and do this. In late May and June, when it was very hot, I was totally drained all the time, even when under the air conditioner. That kind of weather just does that to me every summer during that time. Once the rains start, I feel much better. So I'm so grateful that I'm past that time of year now and able to do more of the things I enjoy. God is good!d

From what I read, long distance hikers, hiking especially in Georgia or West Virginia, spend days in a row walking in the rain. It seems to be its own skill set. Glad you enjoyed!

I love a walk in the rain. Thanks for the reminder, and thank God that it's cooler out.

Oh I am SO jealous! Rain! I love walking in the rain, but there's no chance of that here at least till November. Maybe I could turn on the sprinklers & walk round my back yard? Probably wouldn't be the same, would it? Glad your weather has been nice -- I'm like you, drained when it's so hot. We're having a mini heat wave: 100 or a bit more yesterday, today, tomorrow & maybe Sunday. Ugh. And of course these are the days I'm walking my friend's dog. Maybe I'll sweat so much I'll be skinny! LOL!

I don't mind a light rain either. The earth just smells so fresh and clean. Good for you getting out there.

I grew up in a rain forest and enjoy walking in the rain. In fact, I'd rather exercise in rain than heat. Just put on a hat to keep the water out of your eyes and go!
