Thursday started out as a beautiful happy day. Then WH had a major gas pain. However, when he went to the bathroom, he got no relief. Instead, in a matter of minutes, he was doubled over in pain.
Since, he had blood in his urine, we were reasonably sure that he was passing a kidney stone. He's a tough guy without much faith in doctors, so he tried to find as much help through home remedies. Thursday night, I was online, trying to determine if hydrocodone was safe for pain in this case. It is, but I found other possible helps, so I went out to get them. Got my own dinner while I was out.
Friday morning, everything seemed to be stable, but I didn't want to get so involved that I couldn't drop everything and go home to help him out. So I did not go to my Friday morning exercise class. Instead, I went to the clothing exchange and worked for a few hours.
The BD and I went to lunch. That probably would not have been a good idea had there been a home emergency, but we got away with it. And we enjoyed some very high calorie Italian food at Johnny Carino's.
By Saturday, WH finally conceded that he needed some help. We went to the ER, where he has blood work, urinalysis, and a CT. Best of all, from his point of view, he got placed on an IV morphine drip. The CT revealed no stone, but all the experts said that all signs, nonetheless, pointed that direction. He got sent home with antibiotics, Flomax, and Percocet (yeah!)
Monday, he got a call back from the urinologist to make an appointment for a followup. Since Saturday, the doctor had changed his mind about the CT scan with contrast, so we had to go in for a second CT Monday afternoon.
All of this has been a major distraction, needless to say. I haven't been following any sort of plan at all. My exercise times and classes have ceased to exist. I've been eating mostly whatever's convenient.
Despite all that, I lost two pounds last week. Go Figure.
Tomorrow is the followup appointment. Hopefully, all questions and concerns will be cleared up.
