I was supposed to ride 50 miles in the Katy Flatland Century ride on Sunday. All week we'd been having afternoon thunderstorms & Saturday's was particularly hairy. My daughter & I were out shopping at one point and the thunder boomed so loud that many people jumped. By Saturday night, the chance of rain was at 30%.
I woke up at 4:30 am to leave at 5:00. The forecast looked like nothing would happen until after noon. We would start at 6:45, so I figured I'd be done around 11:00 and so the weather shouldn't be a problem.
The ride was about a 40 minute drive from home. As I started driving, I could see lots of lightning in the south - the ride was in the southwest. Lightning was striking about every 10 seconds! It was BAD! And then I heard the radio say that there was a 50% chance of rain by 10 am. Yikes! I stopped and pulled up a radar on my cell phone. It did NOT look good.
Rats! I was so frustrated! Rain isn't so bad, but I'd even left my light rain jacket at home because I thought I'd be fine. But now... I could get soaked! And, riding in a thunderstorm is a big no-no. ((sigh)) I decided to turn around & go home.
I crawled back into bed at 6 am and told my hubby what happened. And, I sadly fell back to sleep...
But, then I woke up before 7. Oh, yeah! There is a weekly group ride at 8 am that goes for about 22 miles that I'd tried only the week before. It was sunny at my house. I could do that!
And, I DID! I'm so proud of myself! I was really upset about missing out on this big ride, but I made the best of it and went for a ride anyway. And, I had a great time & made another new friend!
As we started the ride we could see big thunderheads to the southwest so I wondered how the riders were doing. For their sake, I hoped it wasn't raining. For mine, I hoped it was nasty so I'd feel better! (How bad is that?) I did talk to a friend yesterday who told me they had some rain but no thunder. Oh, well!
My philosophy lately is, "How bad do you want it?" And, I have to prove to myself that I want it BAD! And, on Sunday, I proved it once again!
"How bad do you want it?"
