Group Runs

So this year to celebrate running again, I've been entering several races and even started training for a marathon a couple of weeks ago. With training for a marathon, I was afraid that my 5k race times might slow down a bit since most of my training was going to be at marathon pace. So I decided I needed one day of training per week that focuses on speed work.

The only issue with this is that I'm not very good at speed workouts. My specialty is endurance and not speed! And sometimes I've noticed that since I run by myself, I'm not pushing myself as hard as I think I am. That being said I decided to start going to a running store's wednesday morning speed workouts. This requires me to have all my running and work stuff packed up the night before. I have to wake up at 5am and leave the house by 5:15am. Not to mention I have a 9pm-11pm skate practice the night before! I'm not going to's tough!

This is my 2nd week going and I know it is going to help me so much. Today I did a 2 mile warm up and then did 8 500m repeats under 5k pace with only 50 meters of recovering in between. It kicked my butt!! But I felt so confident afterwards!

This saturday I am pulling double duty and racing a 10k and then a 5k immediately afterwards. I'm a little nervous, but I needed 10 miles for marathon training and I figured this would be a good way to do it! Wish me luck!

Wow careful this week end - racig 10 miles is a LOT different than a 10 mile long run...... listen to your body.

I agree running with a group keeps me focused and motivated.

Kepp up the good work - and keep us posted on the marathon training.
