Todays run almost kicked my butt!

I only took one puff on my inhailer before I went out. I figured since it was a speed training day - run6min, walk3min and repeat 7 times - I would be okay. Give my lungs a chance to grow and expand without the aid of medicine.

Boy that was a mistake. I spent the whole run struggling to breathe. I could not breathe in for the full 3 counts. My lungs "stopped" at 2. When I would be walking I would try to stretch them. Deep inhailing breaths and hold for a second or two. All the way down into my belly. It never did help.

Just after the half way mark I actually stopped running and turned around to go home. I didn't even make a conscious decision really. I just quickly thought "this is too hard. I'll try again tomorrow."



As soon as I realized what I was doing, I kicked myself in the butt. I only had to continue out for two more runs, then turn around for two more. I was half way there. Besides, as difficult as this run was, it was more beneficial than if it was easy. So I turned right back onto the track I was going and pushed though.

I'm so glad I didn't let myself cave.

This weeks long run is going to be a tough one though. 100minutes. I think next week is 110minutes, and the following week is 120min. Can you imagine that? Running for a solid 2 hours? I know I'll have to have walking breaks. I can't even imagine being able to do it without a break. People who do amaze me.

Anyhow, don't give up on what you want most. You can do this.

    I find it more interesting with the walk breaks :)

I'm glad you stuck it out but that had to suck. I don't know that I have that in me. Way to go.

    I really can't imagine running 2 hours straight. Even with walking breaks I think I'd die! haha you are doing amazing. Great work for pushing yourself, that is a hard thing to do! You are a great self motivator!

    Great resolve! Go you! I don't really know anything about asthma - but PLEASE be careful and always take that inhaler, just in case. You are a beautiful addition to the world and we don't want to lose you! emoticon

    Are you using the pro air inhaler? I was using that one before exercise too. Maybe like me you can switch to the Qvar-its a maintenance inhaler.

    Congrats on turning back around! I don't even think I could run as long as you did without keeling over and I don't even have asthma! Many kudos to you for doing it and I wish you luck on your next run!
