The new summer 5% challenge, goals, plans, & roadmap to get there

emoticon If there is one team I totally adore in Spark~world it's my fab 5% challenge Teddy Bear team! I've never been on a more organized, fun, but make you accountable team ever...and that's EXACTLY what it takes to lose the weight.

You can't just SAY you are going to do it...you actually have to exert the effort to get it DONE!

And on this eight week go round I'm their ML (motivational leader) so that is EXTRA pressure to walk the walk...and step up to the challenge big time.

So here's my plan:

The challenge starts this Saturday 7/27...I've got just a few days to get every temptation OUT of the house!

Rummage through the pantry and look at the ingredient lists of all the stuff in there. If anything is there that will sabotage my weight loss plan...donate it to our local food pantry. This will be easy because I often volunteer from time to time at our little Soup Kitchen.

Stop buying chips...even the healthy bean chips! I tell myself they are healthy...but they ARE chips..just too many calories for too little return! emoticon

I'll solve this crunch craving problem by making my own crunchers that are healthy and low cal.

Kale is the NEW spinach and it's sooo good for you! This is a little carb~y but the healthiness overrides that I think.

Kale Chips 2 servings =90 cal per serving 3.3 g protein 2 g fiber 10 carb.

1 bunch fresh kale (or 1/2 lb)
2 t evoo
sea salt and pepper to taste

Heat oven to 500 F. Line rimmed cookie sheets with parchment or foil. Tear the leaves off the thick stems in chip sized pieces. An easy way is just to fold the leaf in half and rip towards the stem. Put in bowl and drizzle with EVOO and salt and pepper to taste. I throw on a little 'Slap ya Momma' seasoning also because I like a little kick.

Bake 5 minutes (watch them every oven is different) or until edges are brown and kale is crispy when moved around in the pan.

This is mighty good...and it satisfies that crunch factor low calorie style with lots of goodness crammed in for a pretty big quantity of chips. emoticon

I'll post other recipes that I think are pretty good for the time invested in making them.

Put new batteries in my Aria scale which is wirelessly attached to my Fitbit to keep records on the computer.

Strive for 10,000 steps per day on my Fitbit and 8 flights of stairs.

Plan my entire weeks menus out and make sure I have the groceries available to make them.

Sometimes when we get home for our consignment gallery I'm just too pooped to cook.

I'm going to concentrate on dinner salads for our evenings. I am currently in LOVE emoticon with a new chopped salad that is out from Taylor Farms. They have a Southwest, Asian, and another one...brain freeze...can't think of it right now. They are all FRESH ingredients and I love that each has fresh cilantro for some ZING! emoticon You can add regular lettuce to them also these are cabbage based. Or you can just eat them as they come which we usually do.

I get mine at Target Extra (the one that has the grocery section in it) These salads have really crunchy cabbages in them already chopped nicely. The include a dressing packet and a little bag of crunchers for topping in them. They usually have about 3 servings in them and 1 serving w/dressing is about 160 calories. As I recall they are about $3.99 each...we split so a pretty inexpensive meal for sure! Beats going out and spending 3 x that for a salad that isn't half as good!

The hubs and I split one bag so we each have about a serving and a half. I add on some slices of chicken, or some steak, or sometimes some pork loin...and then throw on blueberries, and tomatoes, and onion, pineapple is GREAT...whatever...the salad is VERY filling and usually never more than 700 calories. That's a pretty fantastic light dinner and again...soooo crunchy!

Try them...you might like them on our new challenge...quick, filling, nutritious, and satisfying...that's my new mantra! emoticon emoticon

I'm also going to dig out my Spark DVD's and pop those in for some quick strength training and start using weights at night while watching the boob tube.

I'm also challenging myself to walk on my treadmill for some of my favorite programs. If I'm not on the treadmill...I can't watch them. Good in theory right? emoticon We'll see how it works in real life.

Also too...I'm calling on you my wonderful teamies~to rattle my cage and keep me on track...I need a task master and it surely ain't ME! emoticon

Okay...we've got the plan, we've got the action, now all we need is the follow through...come on Summer Challenge...we CAN and WILL do this!

I'm hoping to lose 9.5 pounds this go round. emoticon

I know tracking is a BIG part of this...so I'll do my best to get that done also. Why do I HATE that so much? Because I have to sit still and just do it...that's why...but I'll do it for my bears! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
