Ask a Stupid Question

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Yeah, yeah, I know. But I have to see if someone knows. The doctor I work for is a very thin woman and doesn't even have to work out. She drinks coffee for breakfast. Her lunch is toddler food (no, I'm not kidding.) Then she doesn't eat much when she gets home. Her husband says she used to be normal in food habits. How is she not STARVING every second of every day? I tried it once, recently, and I DID starve all day and ate like mad when I got home from work. How do people make this work?

She probably has a very slow metabolism. Our bodies adapt to our lifestyles better than we can imagine. Her body is surviving but not thriving. It's not healthy at all.

Not healthy - but the first thing I thought of was 'did she have weight loss surgery?' - sometimes that messes things up so bad that they CAN'T eat - because they just get nauseous, vomit, etc. She may not be doing this by choice? Or did I miss something here?

Everyone has a story - it may not be one of willpower but of illness.

Please don't look to this woman as a model for weight loss. Some people just starve themselves. Personally, I'd rather eat.

I dont understand how she cannot be starving, either. Also how is she possibly getting the nutrients her body requires from toddler food!

I think you have to try different things to figure out what is right for you

This does not sound healthy to me. If she's been doing this for some time her system has adjusted however this is not something i'd recommend. Wonder what her doctor says about it. Would not suggest following her program.

I'm not sure that I would take diet advice from that doctor.... Personally.

I am not sure how it works for your doctor but it is not healthy and is not recommended, good luck on your journey and I eat 5 times a day and have lost 100+ pounds.

I'd agree, not eating enough can be as bad or worse than eating too much. I know several people who keep themselves in good shape by depriving themselves of healthy food & exercise. That's not the way to go so I'd say that whoever is doing this is not taking care of themselves at all, Dr. or not. emoticon
