Recycled orchestra: making instruments out of trash in Paraguay slum. Goodness in the world.

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

It is nice to be reminded of the good that can happen in this world.

This has nothing to do with healthy eating, but it has to do with healthy living. There is a settlement in Paraguay which is built on top of trash. People began to make instruments out of things that were found by digging through mountains of trash. Children from this poor area now have instruments made from trash. The village now has an orchestra with totally recycled instruments. This is a village where the cost of a violin is equal to a house.
I was inspired by the strength to make something positive from a very difficult living situation.

I have seen this documentary a few months ago.
I enjoyed watching it again. I recycle everything.
Even used envelopes to write my shopping list on.
My cousin gives her women's magazines to her mum,
I then get them and pass them on to my girlfriend who
in turn passes them on to her mother. They end up in
the Goodwill stores and people who otherwise would not
be able to buy and read a magazine, get them for a mere
few cents. Then I don't know where they go, but if we make
a concerted effort to recycle, landfills won't be so full.

My hubby and in-laws would have loved this idea. My in-laws were the king and queen of recycling. They even allowed a township dumpster next to their property and maintained it. They would dig out old lawn mowers and toasters and fix them and donate them. They hated waste. My FIL once had his prosthesis fall off in the dumpster. LOL. People throw away really nice things. It's terrible.
