Lessons in Happiness

WHEN A SMILE SHINES WITH THE MEMORIES OF A LIFE WELL LIVED
WHO NEEDS WRINKLE CREAM

I found a wonderful article on
LESSONS IN HAPPINESS by Peter Shaw the Nomadical Sabbatical .
But I don't think you need to travel to adopt his philosophy
{...although I'm sure it helps...}

Great picture! I loved the lesson on Happiness. And how right it is to take nothing for granted and be grateful for what we have. We are so spoiled...

Glad to see you back! and jealous of the weight loss! I have a theory that there are a finite number of pounds on earth, and when someone loses, someone gains, so I think I got yours! Please send them elsewhere! LOL...

Call me vain but that's a little too many wrinkles for me. LOL. This is not a look I want to emulate. The smile looks like it could crack the face off at any time. And when I get old I want people to be able to immediately know if I am male or female, though I'm not sure why. LOL. Of course, if this person is 120 then they look great. Now I'm concerned about my years as a amateur sun bunny. emoticon emoticon

Not having a job for almost 2 years helped me appreciate what I had, it also helped me categorize wants vs needs.
I haven't travelled as an adult, but I have memories of traveling to Mexico; culture shock as an 8 year old can't be easily erased.

What a great article and oh sooo true!

I think this pursuit of happiness thing started back in the 70s with our generation of hippies. The 3rd world areas he speaks of reminded me that you don't miss what you never knew about. I most certainly have my share of material things, but that aside I have to say that I am happy with my life and really don't find the need to contemplate "what (or where or when) is happiness".

I hope all of my Spark Friends are happy too emoticon

"The problem with the pursuit of happiness is that you are always pursuing it."

Truth.

Thank you. I agree with the nomad. I am thankful every day that I am relatively healthy. I do not have the diseases many of my friends and relatives have, I have all my limbs, and I really have few wants. Spark people and the friends I met here I am very grateful to know and have. I love to watch nature, my cat, and the stars and moon at night. Just waking up every day is a blessing. I try to awake every day with a thank you.

I especially liked his comments on community and new ideas. I think he is right that in the US we often lack a sense of community. Plus the importance of being exposed t new ideas and travel makes you see the world in a better prospective.

What I really liked were the comments on how watching tv has a negative effect on life expectancy. Also he is totally correct that we are a commercial driven society that is fueled by a confusion of needs and wants. There are so many unhappy people who are trying to reach societal commercial needs.

Thanks for a great article. I am saving it.

Hugs. emoticon

Great motivational quote and a great article. I was just thinking about all the stuff I have in my home that I really don't use or need. This gives me some motivation to go through my stuff and give to those who need it more than I do.
